6 week old unwell - what would you do?

Long story short myself & DH have had this horrendous cold and ongoing cough for at least two weeks now. I can’t even remember when it started! Our toddler seems to be ok with just a runny nose and odd cough. However our 6 week old started with the same symptoms yesterday afternoon and has gone downhill really quickly. We’ve tried saline spray, snot sucking, elevating, warm air humidifier and a cool mist humidifier. Nothing seems to be helping and I don’t think there’s anything else we can do at this point. He’s struggling with feeds where he’s so congested. I’m tempted to take him to A&E just to see if there’s anything we can give him to help and get his breathing checked over.

Any recommendations? My toddler was born in May so was 6/7 months old when he started getting ill like this and we were able to give him medicine to help him along! It’s been awful seeing our youngest be so ill.

Just to confirm it’s not Covid. We’ve taken multiple tests.

I would always seek medical advice for a small baby. Start with 111.

I’m with PP. Never feel bad for checking even the smallest of things for a little baby! They decline pretty rapidly if something is wrong. Call 111, they usually have out of hours doctors rather than A&E.

Definitely call 111 before trying A&E. you really don't want your spend hours in A&E with a poorly baby.

Sounds like bronchiolitis, take him to A&E.

Thanks @CadyEastman @Choconuttolata @Woodentu @raspberryjuiceandpompoms I called 111 and our baby ended up in children’s A&E before being admitted. I think it was being dismissed as DS just having a cold as he had bronchiolitis when he was less than 2 weeks old. We took him to A&E then and was just told stats are fine, ride it out etc. But this time he’s just so congested, wasn’t feeding because he couldn’t breathe. He’s ended up with a feeding tube and oxygen to help him now. Unfortunately we’re only on day 2 of the bronc so he maybe kept in a few more days. But we’re in the right place. It’s just awful to see. Thank you all for your advice.
