Hi our baby is 12 months and a week old and im just wanting to get some opinions on her moving around etc.

she can bare her weight for a long time when holding onto a hand or sofa etc but cannot get herself into this position, she has be placed there.
also, from standing in this position she will not attempt to move eg further down the sofa etc even if there is a toy she wants sitting there.
aswelL as this She will not even attempt to crawl and as soon as put in that position she will give what sounds like a frustrated cry and won’t be happy until picked back up. I’ve seen her twice crawl a bit backwards but that was it and has only been twice.
there is no bum shuffling or anything like that however when you hold her hands she will doing some little steps.
does this seem any concern to you guys?

Early days , she'll do it in her own time 😊

My 1st child crawled about 18 months, walked 23 months. Classed as a late walker but she could talk like an adult before she could walk! They all do different things at different times.

Thanks both

shes really advanced socially like she’ll pull off glasses and laugh, clap and dance while sitting up, and she says odd word.
gut instinct is that she’ll do it when she does but your anxiety starts on you.
what age would you flag it if not crawling/ shuffling by?

I understand the expectation is they are mobile in some way by 12 months, so it might be worth speaking to your health visitor.

It doesn't have to be crawling, not all babies crawl. But they should be rolling (to get somewhere), commando crawling, bum shuffling, cruising etc.

Backwards is OK though! They often go backwards before they go forwards. It confuses them a bit :D

You could fill in an ASQ form for 12 months - these can be found if you google "ASQ 12 months".

Before you do it, it helps to understand how it works - they don't need to do every single item on the list, you mark down how many of the items they can do, then record it on the scoring sheet which is usually the first or last page. It's when they fall within the shaded or coloured area that it's considered a cause for concern/investigation.

Our DC is now 2 years old. Didn't crawl until 1 year and 1 month, sometimes he'd slide backwards to get from place to place. I used to get so stressed and worried. He started walking at 15 months. He now walks and runs everywhere. Saying that, he's ahead with his speech so I like to think he was busy learning to talk before walking. Every child is different and learns at their own pace.
