What could be wrong with my 3 m/o?

Hey all, let me first start by saying I’m a first time poster. Normally I’m the one that uses this platform to search and find answers to questions I have but my 3 month old is going through a unique situation here and I felt maybe it’d be best to just make my own post in hopes that someone may have experienced something similar and can offer some insight.

As stated above, I have a 3 m/o daughter. She tested positive for Covid about a month ago and tolerated it extremely well, very few symptoms and was a happy baby overall throughout. However, she began wheezing prior to the covid or atleast prior to testing positive for the covid. I assumed it was related to being sick and took her in to her pediatrician, hence when she tested positive. She continued to wheeze after, very noisy wheezing, a few days after seeing the doctor so I messaged them and was told to continue nebulizer treatments. These treatments showed no improvement in her wheezing. Still assuming it was related to the Covid, I waited it out. 10 days or so went by and I took her to ER after wheezing seemed to be getting worse. Doctors assured me her lungs sounded clear and that she was ok. Later that week, she’s still wheezing and it’s just as loud, sometimes louder so I called to schedule another appointment with the pediatrician. At the appointment, doc said her lungs sound great and that it’s probably just related to having covid. Another week goes by and she’s still wheezing and it’s a weekend so I take her to a walk in clinic, they listen to her lungs and say the same thing, they sound clear. Every doctor was able to hear the wheezing each time but said it wasn’t coming from her lungs.

So here we are, over a month later and my little one is still wheezing and it’s loud enough that sometimes I can hear it from the other room. She doesn’t appear to be in any distress from the wheezing, or atleast from what I can tell.

Now here’s a little background, since about 2-3 weeks after birth, she has been “colicky”, she cries every single night and is inconsolable for atleast 1-2 hours. She ends up eventually falling asleep after exhausting herself from crying. The cries indicate to me that she’s in pain. She has always spit up since birth, a lot, after every feeding but it has no effected her weight gain. Recently, she has developed a slight cough and seems to be gasping for air at times. The wheezing continues but oddly, she does not wheeze at night time. Only during her wake periods?

I don’t know what to think. I’m so worried about her wheezing and her spitting up and the inconsolable crying at night time. Any one else experience any thing like this?

I should mention her respiration rate was 22 at her last appointment and we keep an oxygen sock on her which shows stable o2 levels between 94-98 throughout the day.

Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated.

Hi - on the wheezing, my LO had similar. He had a really bad cough when he was about 5 weeks old. Took him to ER and they checked him over said everything was fine. He then had covid at 5mo. He kept sounding very wheezy/rattling chest and it really bugged me. I took him to GP and they listened to his chest and said everything was clear. I was still worried so took him to a specialist respiratory consultant. He too concluded that everything was fine and that children, until the age of about 2 years old, have a very soft wind pipe that can sometimes bend, causing the wheezy/rattling sound. The older my son gets (he is still under two) the less he has the sound.

Have you had any update on this?? I’ve had a similar situation. My baby is 4 months old and after his 8 weeks jabs he got a really bad cold and cough. It basically has never fully gone away and it’s been 2 months, the snotty nose and cough eases up and then comes back and the wheezing has just never gone! He never wheezed before this.

he also has reflux but very mild and is on gaviscon, but the wheezing really bothers me, he’s super happy otherwise but if he’s doing tummy time or quite excited the wheezing gets so loud and his breathing is fast.

I’ve taken him to the gp about 7 times in the last 2 months and they all say his lungs are clear and he’s fine. Just wondering if you got any help?

thanks :)
