I’m a Tesco lover really but have been trying aldi to see if it could save me money.
a lot of things are cheaper like crisps, kids snacks etc but over all I don’t think I’m actually saving that much money switching from Tesco to aldi.
do any of you find much of a difference ?

I find it cheaper for sure.

UnicornMadeOfPinkGlitter · 26/02/2024 17:51

Nope. If anything talking a £ or 2 not a lot in it so i don’t bother. The quality has really gone down at the ones closest to me as well.
I used to love Aldi despite my teenagers asking for branded snacks for packed lunches but stick with it. Noticed prices going up and up every week so switched to try other supermarkets and found one that suits and there is nothing in the price difference.
I still pop in to Aldi from time to time to look at the offers and pick up one or two things if it’s the closest store. That also annoys me as even with self checkout the queue are always long.

Octavia64 · 26/02/2024 17:52

Yep.

Mine went down twenty quid a week at Aldi.

Less if I get a lot of branded stuff though

Yes but not as cheap as it used to be.

DSD9472 · 26/02/2024 17:53

I find aldi much cheaper than tesco! I do need to shop elsewhere though to get everything I need. Sainsburys and asda both price match some items with aldi now though.
I do find the fruit/veg at our aldi isn't great though.

Lifebeganat50 · 26/02/2024 17:56

Cheaper -and non branded tends to be better quality in Aldi

NewMeNewUs · 26/02/2024 17:56

Interesting thanks guys.
i dont like the idea of shopping at more than one supermarket. By the time ive driven to different ones i may as well have spent that petrol money on one shop in Tesco 😂
kids dont mind the unbranded snacks but we all want branded ketchup and baked beans!

Some nice own brand stuff that is really good quality, other supermarkets price match on a lot of things now so less useful. Aldi doesn't have all the variety, which can be a problem if you have to go somewhere else for somethings. But I do quite like Aldi.

Chasingsquirrels · 26/02/2024 17:57

Yes definitely.
I mainly use Aldi and go to Tesco for the things I can't get in Aldi.
When I needed a full shop and Tesco things I kept thinking "I'll just go to Tesco instead of both" and then walk round Tesco picking things up, thinking "how much? I'm not paying that" and putting them down again, so get the things I can't get from Aldi and then go to Aldi.
I'm in the car anyway, and the Aldi I'd about a half a mile further. Or I go to the Aldi on my way home from work on another day.

Willow12345 · 26/02/2024 18:00

Aldi is definitely cheaper than Lidl now. They used to be similar price-wise.

DelphiniumBlue · 26/02/2024 18:02

Yes, i find Aldi substantially cheaper, and also I like the more limited choice - it makes shopping less stressful and faster!
I don't like going to more than one supermarket for a shop, so I alternate, stocking up on the Aldi unbranded stuff as necessary.
I do find that Sainsbury's fruit and veg is far superior, though.

Chickoletta · 26/02/2024 18:03

The wine is much cheaper! (And some really good ones).

I do think it’s cheaper overall - I tend to do a big shop in there during the holidays when I need lots of snacks, picnic stuff etc. Tesco is definitely much cheaper than Sainsbury’s though.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 26/02/2024 18:05

Yes, I definitely find it cheaper. Although not so much that I would go out of my way to get to one.

Dacadactyl · 26/02/2024 18:06

Aldi much cheaper. I only go to Tesco for speciality foods that Aldi doesn't do or has run out of.

We don't eat branded foods.

Justkeepswimmingswimming · 26/02/2024 18:07

Some things are significantly cheaper like Greek yoghurts and coffee. Lots of things the same price eg carrots and broccoli. Laundry powder was more expensive.

TwangBoob · 26/02/2024 18:07

Big difference yes but Lidl is beating either for the stuff i buy!

Justkeepswimmingswimming · 26/02/2024 18:09

If you type Aldi into the search bar of the app it shows you all the price match items.

Andnowshesatoddler · 26/02/2024 18:12

Without a doubt for some things however in a lot your saving money for the lack of convenience and sub par product so for me I don't think it's worth it. Do love the sliced brioche though that's a latest fad for me.

aquarimum · 26/02/2024 18:18

Yep, cheaper by about £20/week.

OooohAhhhh · 26/02/2024 18:19

Definitely cheaper than any supermarket, it's won cheapest supermarket of the year. I get an overloading big trolley for around £100, no way can you get that in Tesco, Morrisons etc.
Supermarkets price match with Aldi for this very reason. Even the basic things like own brand ketchup, beans etc are a bit more expensive in Asda. Aldi sweet chilli sauce is £1.29, Asda's is £2.15, big bottles of pop are 0.49p, Asda it's 0.80p - it's little things like this which when combined are saving you quite a bit. I know you mention Tesco, but I find that more expensive than Asda.
Their super 6 deals which vary each week are really good too if it's what you normally buy. Only thing I would say about Aldi is that their fresh fruit & veg can be a little bit hit & miss, so I find it's worth paying a little more elsewhere for fresh produce that will last a little longer, but everything else is amazing.

penguinwaddl3 · 26/02/2024 18:23

I do for the big shop, the shop that includes their fabulous dish washer tablets, cheap loo rolls, bleach, surface wipes, face creams, shower gels. For a quick mid week shop milk, bread, chicken etc there's not much to be saved with Tesco and Sainsbury's price match. IMHO, not worth it for a quick shop but worth it for the larger shops go for it. Grin

Thankfully mu local Aldi is literally next to Tesco. I fall out of Aldi into Tesco for what I couldn’t get in Aldi.

Dotdashdottinghell · 26/02/2024 18:54

I go to Aldi about once a month to stock up on kids crisps, lunch box snacks, stock pots, cleaning wipes, smoothies, rice cakes etc. O certainly save a fair bit by doing that. The rest just gets delivered by Tesco, I really couldn't be arsed with going to separate shops every week.

CranfordScones · 26/02/2024 19:01

Yes - cheaper in Aldi. And I hate the Tesco dual pricing nonsense.

I'd say that Aldi quality is better for many things.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 26/02/2024 19:02

Yes, by miles.
