July baby clothes

Hello

I am due my second baby at the beginning of July. Our first was a November baby. Due to having some work done on the house I’m planning on sorting through our first’s clothes very soon to reuse as much as possible. Being a winter baby we tended to dress him in a long-sleeved or short sleeved vest and baby grow for the first few months- day and night. With blankets, pram suit as needed. I know British summer can be very unpredictable but I am just wondering what sort of clothes people used for their July/Aug Newborns? I’m probably overthinking it but should I be getting some short rompers or just stick to baby grows/vests. How many layers did you tend to use?

We used short sleeve vests and regular babygrows for the first few days/weeks.
We had quite a wet summer so didn't need really need rompers etc I imagine a long sleeve vest and leggings/joggers would be light enough for a British summer.

i liked short sleeve vest, leggings and cardigans. Easy to strip down or add layers depending on weather.

Our July baby was born during a heatwave and wore mostly just a vest during the day indoors as our flat got hot and then sleepsuits if it was cooler or we were going out. She also had some short rompers as well which I thought were super cute - I’m quite sad she is too big for short rompers this summer.

Thank you it is really helpful. I just remember dressing my first in rompers for his first summer but he was in 9-12 months clothes by then. It was that first lockdown summer and I just remember it being really warm.

Hopefully we will only need a few bits as we do have vests/babygrows so might just get a small set of rompers in case and some leggings if we don’t have any but I think we might. It’s been so long I can’t remember exactly what we had.

My ds was born in May during a heatwave, he was mainly in just a nappy!! But it was extremely hot and he was a 9 pounder so he had plenty of insulation!! Dd was July, she wore lots of short rompers or play suits with a cardigan when needed

Mainly short sleeved vests and sleep suits. But also had some little short sleeved and short legged rompers for very hot days.
have large muslin cloths for blankets.
in case there is a heatwave get a pram fan.

Short sleeved vest and baby grow for the most part. We were bought a load of really cute short rompers but they barely got worn, only on the few super hot days.

I found we didn’t use the short rompers much either. At night he wore sleepsuit still, no vest if warm. But daytime even though it was 30+ where we live most the summer, it’s often cooler first thing and in evening, or inside in shade or air con places so woudp start in short vest, leggings and thin cardigan at 7am, cardigan off by 9am. Leggings on or off throughout day as needed, cardigan back on in evening

August born in a heat wave. First week still short sleeved vest and sleep suit. Long sleeved vests and leggings were good for hot days with the leggings coming on and off over the course of the day depending on the temperature. Very hot day or two just a nappy.
So usual mix of short sleeved, long sleeved vests and sleep suits with extra leggings you just might not use them as multiple layers. Bare in mind by September it will be turning chillier and depending on size they could be still in 1 month of 0-3 month clothes. My daughter was a 9th percentile baby and in 1month clothes until 10 weeks and 0-3 months clothes until 5 months so 1 month clothes took us from summer into autumn and the 0-3 month clothes into winter.
