Confused weaning šŸ˜…

ftm and confused about milk intake and weaning …
they really should go into detail about this sort of thing in the baby classes prior but anyway..
I’ve a 8month old baby who is weaning well loves food , we are doing puree as I’m concerned about her intake as she’ll only have 350-400ml a milk a day . I would love to do a bit of BLW but I’m after she won’t actually eat enough
On the nhs guidelines baby’s 6-12 month require 500-600ml of milk a day
my question is if she has 75ml cows milk in her porridge and a pot of yougart say 40g does this count as 115ml of milk for the 500-600ml guildlines?

Yes milk in cereal and other dairy products count towards their intake. Why not give some finger foods alongside the purees too

My LO is coming up 8 months and he’s dropped to around 500ml a day but does have cows milk in weetabix and porridge, yoghurt and cheeses so I haven’t worried too much.

I like BLW so I offer up the finger foods first, then give puree/mashed food on a spoon so I know he has eaten and then offer say a finger of fruit after his dinner so he has the finger food again.

I do agree about lack of details though beforehand. I had a weaning workshop virtually through the HV and it covered the introduction of foods and allergens in depth but nothing really about about following it on or progressing.

It will count towards the milk proportion of the diet but if formula is below 500ml a day you will need to introduce a multivitamin. They only need vitamins a,c and d

Can you tell us a bit more about the guide? I'm a bit reluctant to tap on links where I'm not sure what it is?

Formulamum · 24/02/2024 10:40

@CadyEastman its off the mummy cooks website , I tried to attach the image but it didn’t work
it goes though the weaning stages

i thought the image came up with the link sorry it was a bit random to not put any content with it when nothing came up

Don't really think there are weaning stages anymore are there? When weaning was advised at 4 months, you could only give fruit and veg, now it's 6 months you can give them more or less anything from the get go. The only foods the NHS say not to give are here.

I'd say that 300 ml isn't much, that's the amount of milk recommended for a 12 month old once their rate of growth has slowed a bit. Agree with the PP who says that of formula dips below 500 ml a day you need to be offering a daily vitamin.

The Caroline Walker Trust has produced thus guide which give ideas of some finger foods to try, sample menus and guidance on portion sizes, which is the bit I always struggled to find information on.
