Taking antibiotics

Hi, just hoping for some advice please,
my daughter has been prescribed amoxicillin for a sinus infection, but it’s becoming really hard to get her to take it, and I must admit, it is awful! I’m just wondering if anyone knows if this can be mixed with a small amount of something else to help it go down a little easier? Like juice, lemonade etc?
thanks in advance!

How old is your daughter?
My kids always get on much better with the banana flavour, but when my youngest was smaller (1ish) I'd mix with a tiny bit of smoothie or orange juice.
The more you can mask it the better.

Must admit medicines are the only time I will use straight bribery as well and I always have a treat on hand for after!

Thanks so much for your replies! Shes actually seven, but is so fussy, so even calpol can be a task, she understands she needs to take it to feel better, but I was just hoping to mix it up with something and she could gulp it down with a straw, yesterday she was in tears because she was gagging with it and I think it freaked her out a little! You might need to just pin her down and give her it.

Mjane123 · 23/02/2024 09:17

Ah I don’t think I could do that haha, I’m just hoping there’s a way to make it taste better, I’m not sure if mixing it with something else alters it in anyway, Google says a lot of different things, so thought I’d ask to see if anyone else had done it! :)

does she like yoghurt? mix it in the spoon or the syringe if that's how she's taking it.

Mrsjayy · 23/02/2024 09:23

the longer she's faffs about the worse she will be it's the thinking about it that makes them not take it. I used to tell mine if you hold your nose you can't taste it .

Mjane123 · 23/02/2024 09:31

Yes she loves yogurt, I’ll try that thank you!!
I don’t think it’s about the faffing about, and she knows she needs to take it, but she feels crap as it is with the infection, so if I can make it taste even a tiny bit nicer, then I’m going to

Yes, you can mix amoxicillin with anything as long as you then administer it straight after.

Mrsjayy · 23/02/2024 09:44

oh I didn't mean she was faffing on purpose sorry, I just think they get them self worked up about the taste and it takes longer, hopefully the yoghurt works

Mjane123 · 23/02/2024 10:12

Aw no I know what you mean! Shes up and awake now and has taken it like a pro on its own (with a £2 bribe) haha! Thanks everyone!
