Formula fed baby constipation

My baby is formula fed on aptimil, he only has dirty nappies every 4/5 days and will only go if you massage his belly and hold his legs. Has anyone experienced the same? He is on lactulose and makes no difference.

How old is he? My DD was a bit like that, never really found a solution although we were prescribed lactulose as well. Our GP said it was only a cause for concern if it was more than 5 days or the poo was hard when it did come. There was a period of time when putting her in the Baby Bjorn bouncer was the only way to get a poo out, must have had the magic angle.

I did find that changing the formula brand improved it a bit, from Aptimal to Kendamil in our case so you could try that but don’t change too frequently as they need time to adjust. I’ve also heard that readymade can be better than powder if they are constipated but it didn’t make a big difference for us.

Thanks, he's 4.5 months and on day 5 now. He was better for a while when we changed him to aptimil but we're back to 5 days now. Hopefully he'll go today.

My 7 week old is the same and is on cow and gate. He has only been going every 3/4 days. The gp prescribed lactulose but I didnt use because when he does go, the poo is soft so I didn't want to mess with his little system. I think it can be normal, maybe if it gets to 6/7 days it would be more of a concern but HV says it's just their systems being immature and learning when to go.
