Breast fed baby

My breastfed baby is 9 weeks old and has gone from pooping after pretty much every feed to only going once or twice a day. Is this normal?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

yes

TobKat · 16/02/2024 12:46

Completely normal. Poos become less frequent after about age 6 weeks. As long as poos are soft and yellow/mustard (for a breast fed baby) all's well.

Totally normal

From the opposite perspective when I later told drs that my daughter was still going 5-8 times a day at about that aged it was marked as not typical and did turn out to be due to allergies.

At 18 weeks she went down to 1-2 twice a day but now they were like rabbit pellets that she struggled to pass. This too was abnormal and we got a stool softener applied.

As long as they are a normal consistency, no issues with passing the stools it's ok that they start to reduce in frequency at this age

Yes normal.

If you're unsure and have a health visitor you could always call them for peace of mind.

Mine went to once/twice a week (still normal consistency and colour- just lots of it!) until he went onto solids!
As long as they’re not in pain when pooing/straining like they’re constipated then it’s all good.

Yes they can start to go longer between pooing at this age as others have said. DD's record was 12 days.

Mine was every week like clockwork. "It's Tuesday Poosday!" 😂

Tuesday Poosday GrinGrinGrin

We used to play Russian roulette on poo day as to who was holding him when it would happen 😂😂 (or be buzzing if his grandma or nana were round and would volunteer to deal with it 🙈🙈)
