Constant nursery bugs

My DS 1 this Saturday has been battling nursery bugs for the last 4 weeks. He barely sleeps in his crib as he coughs so much he’s sick every other night.
took him to our wonderful doctor who did a full check up and said his tonsils are bad so need to spray them (that’ll be fun 😭)
lve got a lot of it too.
it’s really hard, any tips or just people going through similar as I’ve found myself getting down in the dumps where I’m poorly too I just want to feel better to be the best for my boy.
started work a couple weeks ago and have had to take 3 days sick already.
im a single Mum, dad didn’t want to know. Wouldn’t change that but being a single parent is HARD.
being a parent is HARD
Love him more than life itself but it’s really difficult when they’re sick right?!

We are going through exactly the same, my little one has been constantly ill since he started nursery and we've both had lots of time off! So no advice but solidarity!
Someone recommended giving a multivitamin which is supposed to help a bit...

Solidarity is perfection as it makes it soooo much easier !! I hope you and your boy get through it soon!!! 🩵

One of mine started school last September, the other started nursery at the same time, it's honestly ridiculous how often we're sick.
We have enough medicine for both kids, me and DH to open a pharmacy.
If I eventually figure out a way of avoiding bugs, I'll report back.

It's awful. Honestly, it took a good 3 months for it to get better for us and another 3 to get back to some semblance of normal. Winter is still crap, 2-3 months of constant bugs. You just have to batten down the hatches, drop all expectations and ride with it. Make sure you're sharing taking time off work equally and make the most of flexible working where you can. Solidarity, it is awful.

So sorry, missed the bit where you said you're on your own. Huge hugs, you're a superwoman!

We've been going through the nursery bugs with my 1 year old at the moment too, we've had something different every single week so far this year. I just keep telling myself the only way out is through. You have my absolute sympathies though, it's so so hard especially when you're sick too and you just want to sleep but they're up all night. Vitamins all round, and nice quiet weekends.

Superduper02 · 13/02/2024 21:00

You have my sympathy. This was us 18 months ago when my DC started nursery. The back to back illness, when you're sick yourself is horrendous. Doing it alone must be so hard. You are amazing! Try your best to keep things sanitary, eat well and hydrate loads. We used to change my DC as soon as they got home or plonk them in the bath asap. The vapours really help. Also the saline spray really does work wonders for clearing their system out, especially immediately after a bath.

It’s literally been the worst thing about parenting 2. Eldest brings home a bug and gives it to some combination of me, baby or DH. This winter has been particularly awful. Solidarity.

Solitary. Going through the same thing with my 14 month old. Right now I'm pacing around rocking her at 11pm after she's brought yet another mini plague home with her and won't sleep. None of us have been well since December.

It is RELENTLESS.

Solidarity here too. We have all been constantly sick since Oct and it’s been absolutely awful. I’ve been dreaming of being signed off work with exhaustion. I’m just hoping things will get better as the weather improves as I’m not sure how much longer I can keep my job for at the moment with so much time off sick and then being massively sleep deprived the rest of the time.

Am13 · 14/02/2024 10:08

Sometimes even though it’s horrible it’s nice to know people are going through the same!!! It’s so hard and I wish I could make him better!!

I’m just holding out hope and have bought multivitamins to try to help!! 🩵🩵🩵

Solidarity, my LO has been ill since Nov with nursery bugs. No tips, just make gentle days at home while you recover.

Vaseline under the nose helps stop the snot stick!

If it makes anyone feel better we had constant illnesses from October to February in our house with our DS (currently 16mo) AND he hasn't even started nursery yet. I honestly just think the first proper winter makes them ill constantly!
