Gaming for young children

My dc now turned 7. He only got a tablet a year ago and is not particularly keen on it. We always encouraged traditional playing/ reading/ Lego building rather than screens.

However, I'm now thinking to may be introduce him to some age appropriate gaming. Something that is wholesome, if that makes sense, not brain- numbing but rather stimulating.

He has Amazon kids on his tablet and he plays some (toddler) games occasionally - building houses, vehicles, etc., doodling. He also tried a bit of Scratch Jn and followed a few tutorials to have a go at basic programming. Has a maths app for school which he hates.

Just wondering what are good next steps in the digital world, that would be beneficial for him, cognitively and emotionally, and not just popular and addictive.

Also will he need anything else or Amazon fire tablet should be fine for a while more.

I think you'll find that once he gets started, the only games he'll want to play will be the addictive ones.

@TheShellBeach oh dear. No 'soft' intro options..?

He likes playing a bit of chess but couldn't find him a good app for that yet when I looked. May be some ideas in that vein...?
