5 year old constantly makes noise

I'm really struggling with DS1's apparent need to constantly make noise. This is definitely partly a me thing, in that I'm not great with noise, but I do also feel that he is slightly unusual in the absolute lack of silence.

Sometimes it is definitely to annoy me / others (making loud noises when I'm trying to having a conversation with DM for example), but a lot does appear unconscious - he was shouting "75, 75" on repeat yesterday while getting dressed by himself in his room. It also doesn't appear connected to attention in that we were happily building Lego together for an hour at the weekend and while we were doing that he was just making random noises.

It isn't really new I guess, since he has been able to talk (very early) it has been a constant monologue, and he sings himself to sleep to the extent you can hear him stop mid song and start snoring, but I do feel a move to just noises is relatively recent. Before it was actually words or songs, but now it will just be noises he enjoys.

The way I'm handling it at the moment is that there's a difference between communication and noise, and that I'm always happy to talk to him but he does need to not always make noise. His view is that he makes noises because he enjoys doing it. Even when he agrees to stop for a time he starts again without realising (I'm pretty sure it's subconscious from his demeanor).

I'm just not sure how to handle it, but it's impacting how much I enjoy spending time with him. Which sounds pathetic, but I just occasionally want silence! I think the only time that is achieved is when he's eating chocolate.

Hey op. Not sure about the answer but my 5 year old is exactly the same. It's relentless. Even when he's on his playstayion he will just make random noises and be singing.

Have you tried loop earplugs? I've heard good things about them dampening the noise and might be a temporary help.
