Getting 1 y/o to hold her own cup?

My little girl is turning one in a couple of weeks. I’ve been trying for a few weeks now to teach her how to hold her own bottle, or cup, but she flat out refuses. If I give her an empty sippy cup she can pick it up by the handles, and she can hold an empty bottle with two hands, but if I try to get her to do it when there’s any milk or water in the bottle/cup she just refuses.

As she’s going to be one soon I really want to encourage her to be able to drink independently. I feel like she definitely has the motor skills to do it but either doesn’t understand why I’m not the one feeding her or just doesn’t want to do it herself 😂

Does anyone have any tips?

Just keep doing what your doing and she'll get the hang of it soon enough.

You could try lots of praise when she picks up her beaker, but honestly she'll get the idea of feeding herself soon

Honestly you have the idea she can learn but in reality it's hard to know when anything is ready!
My tip is to think about it this way (also applies to potty training, etc etc)
You are providing the opportunity to try a new skill, and your child is deciding when they are ready to try it.
As long as you are giving them the chance reasonably often, and increasing the frequency when they start to show an interest, then you are doing a perfect job. And as long as your child is deciding either not to try, or to try, then they are doing a great job.
Any other route is the way to stress and disconnection!
Good luck!
