I have a 8 month old DS who until recently was pretty much EBF. I did go through a phase when he was a few months old of expressing and giving one bottle at 10pm but it was more hassle than it was worth so I stopped. Recently for a multitude of reasons, I’ve decided to try and get him drinking from a bottle. I’ve tried loads of different ones, including the maam ones he drank from no problem when he was little, but he refuses all of them or just chews on the teat. As you are supposed to wean them off bottles by a year anyway, I changed tact and started to try and teach him to use a sippy cup and it took a while but we had success! I’ve not replaced a feed with it, but throughout the afternoon he will drink about 3oz from it, but over the course of a few hours.
So a big reason for doing this is so I could start to have some nights off as he still feeds at 10 and 2ish. For the first time this evening I tried giving him a sippy cup of milk at 10pm but it was a complete failure. He had one sip and just fell asleep in my arms. I then went to BF and he did that as normal, but essentially whilst he was asleep.
Any advice on how I can do these night feeds with a sippy cup?? My only other thought is I will have to turn the lights on and really wake him up but then I worry he won’t go back to sleep!
