10 month baby hasn’t grown for a while - anyone else?

DS is 10 months old. He was nearly 8lb born at 37 weeks, so a big baby, and quite long. He grew and grew and grew and at 4 months he was measured as being on 90th centile for both height and weight. However we’ve just had his 10-12 month check and he’s now on the 50th centile for height and 65th for weight.

I did notice he hadn’t grown out of his clothes for quite a while, he’s been in 9-12 months since he was about 6 months old and looks like he could be in them a few weeks yet at least.

DP is the same height as me, 5’9, so I’m tall but he’s not if that makes sense!

The HV didn’t seem concerned but wondered if this has happened to anyone else? Thanks

My very long, fairly big boy at birth measured 50th centile for both weight and height at age 1.

Birth size is determined by nutrients in the uterus. After birth, genetics start to kick in (as told by my paediatrician friend). So I would continue to monitor but it doesn't sound all that concerning.

Perfectly normal, especially if he is crawling/walking.

Not sure about the height but definitely a drop in weight centiles once she started walking at 9 months. The key bit there being centiles, not actually losing weight. I think it’s quite normal (to a point) once they become active. Also as they get older they definitely grow in spurts, so don’t see to grow for ages then shoot up seemingly overnight! You just stop measuring them quite so frequently. IDK if that’s a 10MO thing though, I honestly can’t remember but I know for certain that I wasn’t replacing shoes (needed as walking) monthly or anything. If the HV isn’t worried then I wouldn’t be.

Thank you. He doesn’t look skinny, he’s meeting all his milestones (can crawl, pull to stand, babble, wave etc). I’m not too worried but it seems odd that he’s suddenly stalled over the last few months rather than a gradual decline since birth like I would expect with ‘catching down’. Hopefully he maintains his 50th centile and that’s just where he’s meant to be.

Oh and I forgot to mention his big sister is on something like the 20th centile, she was short from birth though.

Between 7 and 13 months my daughter only put on 200g. My HV said it's quite a common time for weight growth to slow as they start doing and thinking more but sometimes their appetite doesn't keep up

My daughter was born on the 9th percentile by 6 months she was on the 50th percentile and then dropped to the 25th percentile at 13 months. She mostly is on the 25th percentile now and whenever she jumps to the 50th percentile she has 6-9 months of slower growth and goes back to the 25th percentile.
In terms of length/height she was on the 25th percentile until 12 months and sometime between 12 and 24 months dropped to the 1st percentile where she has stayed

My daughter was in 9-12 month clothes for a year from 15 months. She's 3.5 now and has recently gone into 18-24 month clothes. She just doesn't outgrow clothes!

We’ve had a very similar experience OP. My son is 10.5 months old, was born on the 75th centile for weight and 85th for height. And jumped up to 85th centile for weight at 4 months old.

At his 9-12 month review 2 weeks ago he is now 73rd for weight (so only a small drop) and 38th for height. HV wasn’t worried at all and said especially because he’s now more mobile than he’s ever been, it’s common to see a drop in centile for weight (apparently they’d let him drop 2 lines on the curve without worry). Height she wasn’t so sure on but still isn’t worried! I am 5ft 3 and husband is 5ft 10 so we were more shocked at his original height than anything. I am sure it’s nothing to worry about!
