7 week old large head?

HV has just been and apparently my 7 week olds head bas jumped 2 centile and this can be cause for concern re hydrocephalus amongst other things. It does not look large and he has no other symptoms.

They said they need to go back and plot it on their system properly to confirm.

He was 50th centile at birth but was 70th at last check 28/12 and 70th now. Isn’t this normal since it hasn’t changed since then? Or do the count the centile increase from
birth?

His dads head is absolutely huge and has always been a running joke, so hoping it’s just that

Hey OP, we had the same and had to have lots of measuring done and a referral to paediatrics it grew so much! She took one look at my boyfriends head and said she wasn’t concerned! Try not to worry x

My ds was the same. We just had to have it measured every month for the first year and i think it was about 5 months when he went for a scan as it just kept growing! The dr laughed when we walked in and said well we can see where he gets his big head from (my dh!) hes 6 now and no problems at all! He has the same sized head as me but he looks perfectly in proportion and always has.

Congrats and try not to worry

Thanks both.

HV rang back this afternoon and said after plotting it on the system, it’d actually within normal limits albeit still big! So no further action for us.

Sorry to jump on your post, glad all was ok!
my daughter is 3.5 she was on 2nd centile for weight and head circumference when born. She is now on 3rd for heigh but her head is now on 75th! I only measured as her bike helmet will not fit and had to put her older sisters on. She has a history of seizures and other medical issues. Should I speak to someone that it’s jumped so much? I read it should follow the curve on the graph

DS' had a head that was large but like you, his DF's head is enormous too.

He does have ADHD but apart from that everything is fine.

Glad you've had some reassurance OP. If its any consolation, I've had to cut along the shoulder seam of my children's pyjamas from birth to approx 4 years old so I didn't decapitate them when I pulled the PJ top off! They still struggle with hoodies! 😂

The GP wanted to keep an eye on it and has checked it twice since. He has his last check next week and they have said if it’s still the same growth rate then no need for any more checks. He has actually shot up in weight to the 91st centile as well so I think he is just a huge baby overall!

Well, he had his check today and he’s gone up again! Now on 90th centile so has been referred on. Freaking out.
