19 month old not talking/animal noises etc

Hi everyone,

My little one has just turned 19 months and I am really worried about his speech, as there’s basically none. He babbles constantly but that’s about it.
He doesn’t have any words or animals noises etc. He will say go, go, go when he wants to play a chasing game and nom nom (sometimes I’m not even sure if he is) when he’s wanting something to eat.
I became extremely worried about him at 14 months as he wasn’t clapping, pointing or waving. Spoke to my HV who wasn’t initially worried about him as he had great eye contact, was answering to his name, played normally, was a social wee thing and had been meeting all milestones up until then.

She then came out again at 17 months and again had no concerns, just advised to give him more time. In the last month or so he is now clapping, waving and pointing with whole hand. But no further forward with speech.
I feel my family think I’m nuts as I’m constantly worrying and they think there’s nothing wrong.
JuSt looking for any positive stories or advice! X

My son was age 2 before he started speaking. Literally the next day. Before then he just didn't see a need for talking - he communicated in other ways. He's now 2.5 and currently "reading" one of his books (that he has memorized).

It doesn't hurt to get checked out, but it's way too soon for worrying 💐

Thank you for your reply - he's at nursery a couple of days a week and they feel like kids are later speaking now after covid and nearer the 2 year point. But you can't help but worry! Also google doesn't help 😂 just puts the absolute fear in you!
