... start bothering the surgery for an appointment tomorrow, is it possible to get stuff over the counter now or is that only for adults.

Or, indeed, is it better not to get 'stuff' at all but just keep the eye clean and squirt breast milk in????

Isn't the stuff antibiotics? So that'll only work on bacterial conjunctivitis.

My DD has had it twice. First time we had drops, did nothing and lasted ages. Last I kept it clean, and dropped breastmilk in. Worked a treat. Also tried to keep her nose wiped because she was smearing snot in her eyes.

My ds 7 months has gunky eye / conjunctivitis and we have done nothing except keep it clean with cotton wool and clean boiled water. This is what my lovely gp tol me to do when dd had it a couple of years ago so i am reluctant to go to surgery now.

Good tip about the breastmilk NoBunny - I will try that in the morning. I have not heard that before.

Yep, breast milk really works - I was sceptical but found it did the trick very quickly!

I use camomile tea
Don't laugh, it works

Put about 3 teabags in a mug, add boiling water, allow to cool, take out teabags. Apply to eyes regularly with clean cotton wool (keep in fridge in the meantime and make a new batch after 24 hours).

My mum told me this, and she's a GP, and it definitely gets rid of early gunky eye before it can get to the stage of needing antibs.

Mind you breastmilk is probably better, but you could try both and see.

Thanks all! I think we'll tough it out with the home remedies. She is such a wriggler none of the ABs end up in the right spot anyway.
