Two year old suddenly clingy ? Just a phase?

Hi MN
I wanted some guidance/ see if anyone has experienced this.

My son is 2.5 years old and has always been very independent. He’s never shown any shyness toward other children - would happily play around other children and was staring to show interest in watching / playing with them until now. He has become very clingy, grasping my hand around other children, especially in a new place. He almost becomes fearful at first - then slowly begins to play alongside them making sure I am close by. Also wants more cuddles, reassurance I’m there. This is all very new to me, he’s changed so much. I love the strong bond but I’m also a bit worried ?

He had a mild concussion 2 weeks ago from falling at the playground. He was a bit lazy for a day then seemed fine. However, Since this, both myself and his Dad have noticed he’s become more clingy / cautious. Could this possibly be the reason or a coincidence?

Any advice or help would be appreciated!
