Our son just turned 6 months old last week. The past week or so, he’s been suuuuper whingy. We thought it was teething as he was really dribbly, irritable, chewing on everything he could, just wasn’t his usual happy self. Nothing really seemed to work - he has plenty of teething toys, he had nurofen and calpol (at separate times within the right times of one another), tried bonjela, anbesol, teething powder, basically tried everything and nothing seemed to help him much, he was still really upset and whingy. Prior to this, he was sleeping fairly well - went down at 7:30pm, slept until around midnight, had a bottle and nappy change then back down until around 5 for another bottle and change, then woke up properly at 7/7:30am.
However - the last week, he’s been absolutely unbearable overnight. Goes to sleep at 7:30pm as usual, sleeps until around midnight and from
then on he is waking up every half hour or so. Even after being changed and fed, even after having his dummy put back in. He wakes up and whinges, we go over to settle him back to sleep, get back in bed and half hour or less later he’s awake again. It’s been so hard with both of us trying to sleep. We’ve just started thinking about my husband sleeping downstairs overnight to get a full nights sleep so he can work (usually works from home) and then taking over with our son in the morning while I get some sleep.
Is this a normal phase or can we do something to help? His bedtime routine is exactly the same every night - bath, bottle and bed, so nothing has changed! He has started trying to crawl and is just getting the hang of dragging himself forwards a bit (can currently roll himself over, then move backwards or round in a circle lol) so I don’t know if the frustration of trying to learn something new has had an affect on his sleep? we are just both shattered and can’t figure out why he’s suddenly sleeping so crap overnight now!
