11 month old cough waking up all night

Baby is 11 months and has definitely got a cold, his nose is pouring with snot.

Also has a bad cough, you can hear the mucus when he coughs. I know it takes time but he is literally coughing all night and waking himself up, sometimes to the point of nearly making himself sick and gagging. We use saline, the snot sucker, give Calpol, a humidifier in his room and a Calpol plug in.

anything else we can do to help him sleep? Last night I was up every hour. I don’t think doctors can do anything about the cough but how do you know when it’s a chest infection over a cold cough?

My ds suffered terribly with coughing at night everytime he had a cold and we used to slightly prop him up so he wasn't laying totally flat. It didn't always help but worth a try. Hope he's on the mend soon x

When my kids are like that they have always ended up with ventolin/salbutamol (if it wasn’t pneumonia, but I could always hear crackles too when it was pneumonia). I’d see the GP at that age.

Hi there how did this end up? My 13 month old is the same she seems to have had it for so long. Normally have to take her out to night air to stop the coughing fits. Already been to GP twice second time got a steroid and it did nothing. Have the humidifier Calpol plugin saline snot sucker and snuffle balm nothing seems to be working l.

Hi

we ended up turned twice away from gp then ended up at a&e over a weekend as he had croup and got the steroid but it took a good few days/week for any improvement. I think it’s just time. He did end up coughing up a big bit of phlegm during the night which eased the coughing but caused him to be sick. Since then we are already on our second cold/cough - going through it again… constantly picking things up ag bloody nursery 🙄
