Anybody else in chicken pox hell? 🙃

Noticed 2 spots on my 12 month olds chest last Friday afternoon, he is known to have dribble rash a lot so I honestly just assumed it was that. The following afternoon so a whole 24 hours later it was very obvious it was chicken pox.

My eldest (5) had shingles just after Christmas so time line matches up that the little one has caught it from him. My eldest had chicken pox at 6 weeks old so although I was shocked he had shingles apparently it’s normal if they had the pox as a tiny baby?!

Last night he just didn’t sleep at all! Like at all! I’m so exhausted and currently 5 weeks pregnant. This morning (so technically on day 4) he has had even more pop up. They are all inside his bum cheeks and I think these are irritating him the most. He just cannot sleep and is so exhausted, he’s just napped for 30 mins and woken up screaming!

We’ve given calpol, piriton, virasooth gel every couple of hours.. he doesn’t particularly enjoy baths as of late so not sure one with oats would work and would only traumatise him more.

Any advice? Positive vibes? 😩😩

Oats in the bath is very soothing, I know you said he isn't keen but can you put some toys in alongside him to distract him?

My dd had the spots worst in her nappy area, exactly in all the folds and chafing zones. Miserable.

I found a zinc and calamine nappy cream which really helped.

As well as oats, I also put cornflour and baking soda in the bath. My dc would have 3-4 baths a day when they had chicken pox. As well as oats, I also put cornflour and baking soda in the bath. They loved playing with the cornflour. If your ds isn't enjoying the bath right now, you might try changing its location - using a little paddling pool, or a large garden trug, for example, or even the kitchen sink. I had to wash my 12m old in the kitchen sink for a few days when our bathroom was out of action, and he thought it the funniest thing ever.

Poxclin mousse! Used it on both of mine and bought some for a friend in the pandemic when she couldn't get hold of any near her

I know you said he doesn't like baths but what I used to do was put Oats in a sock, put it in the bath and dd play with her toys and she would sit in there for around 10-15 mins. It did provide temporary relief. It is hell I know, you have my sympathies x

Hoping to bump this because honestly I haven’t slept in 48 hours and he’s miserable day and night. He cried all night long. I know chicken pox is generally awful but how long does this no sleep, constantly uncomfortable, miserable phase last? 😩

I feel sick today because I’m THAT tired. I can’t imagine another night like that again. Last night was worse than the one before. I’m waiting for a call back from the doctor but honestly none look infected, his temp has only gone as high as 37.7 and he’s got a bit of a cough. He won’t let me look to see if there’s any in his mouth but I highly suspect there are.

We’re now on day 4 (5 if you count the day he had only 2 spots) and he’s had a few new spots pop up but not a lot. Sorry but I just am at a loss what to do for him, and myself, I feel awful moaning because he’s clearly got it worse but Jesus I’m so tired and drained.

I’m here in the pox trenches with you. 22mo on day 4 and I slept 2 hours last night. Betting more of the same tonight. You likely are past the worst of it as you are a day ahead. As soon as enough are crusting over they feel so much better. My DD had it two weeks ago so i can kind of see when the worst is and things get better but my DS is not there yet.
