Hi everyone

i I wanted to start a thread around eczema and babies/toddlers.

what are your top tips?
I’ve suffered my whole like and never found a solution, when I was a kid it was awful. Don’t want my baby to go through the same.

so far, we use; aveeno, childsfarm, hydrocortisone, fairy non bio and comfort sensitive (wash clothes separately too), cotton clothes, breathable stuff.

Where possible avoid topical steroids completely. When these are stopped the flare up can be horrendous.

Avoid overly perfumed anything! I have even had a a reaction to a scented candle before and I might be barking up the wrong tree, but it made me concerned about the fumes settling on my skin.

I found a salve/balm type thing over Christmas from a company called Arcade Skincare. Pledges to be all natural, vegan etc. and so far it has really helped with a flare up. Safe for babies as well.

Environmental factors can trigger eczema - air purifiers and humidifier (if needed) in the house have been a god send.

My little girl was referred to dermatologists, had multiple allergy tests, was given every single steroid cream under the sun, given emollients etc. Nothing worked and she continued to get skin infection after skin infection. We eventually got referred to an epidemiologist to see if it was allergy related and for more tests. He felt it was simply really bad eczema. I wish someone had told me at the very start of our journey the advice he eventually gave me. 1 cap of Milton sterilising solution in the bath, 1 cap of emollient (if we so wished but he didn’t rate it and simply said it made the bath slippy), then just apply her normal emollient cream on. Her skin is now almost completely clear! A few small patches sometimes re appear and we apply a very small amount of steroid but we are so happy with her skin. She has been like this for almost a year now and we just wish we had known sooner.
