Weaning

Just started weaning my 6 month old. He has CMPA so I’m finding it quite hard considering my other children were fine.

hes been a bit constipated for a few days so I’m not sure if it’s because of something I’m doing.
he will have
Bottle around 6-7am
Breakfast around 9ish
Bottle Around 11ish
Lunch between 12-1 which is like a pouch, puréed food etc
Bottle around 3
Dinner around 5ish
Bottle at about 7/8
then sometimes he wakes at about 11 so he will have one then.

Does this seem ok or should he be having more milk? The milk is 7oz.

i just hope I haven’t made him constipated by not giving him as much milk!

Also to add he doesn’t always have dinner every day sometimes he will nap late and wake up too late for it so I just give him a bottle instead

It just takes time for the body to adjust to food. Are you offering sips of water with food?

Thats a lot of food at 6 months. Usually you start with just swapping one meal from milk to food.they should still be having exactly the same amount of milk

At 6 months they only really have 1 meal and you gradually work Upto the 3 meals because at this point they're getting everything they need from the milk. Feeding a cmpa baby isn't as hard as you'd think, I was so worried at first with mine but there is so much choice now for dairy free options that you really don't need to worry 😁

If you've just started then they dont need 3 meals already. Start with one meal and keep milk feeds the same. As they get used to the food you can add in more meals. Offer a lidded cup of water with the food. Milk will gradually decrease as food increases

I’ve started a few weeks ago but off and on cos he wasn’t bothered, shall I just cut out some meals then? What meal would you make sure he has, breakfast? He’s just not that interested in milk much anymore so it’s hard

I went for lunchtime first. He's probably not interested in the milk because he's full of food. You might notice that change when you drop to 1 meal

If just doing one meal I would give breakfast as with CMPA there may be other allergies too, feeding in the morning means you have the whole day to notice/deal with an allergic reaction
