White noise

During the summer when it was very hot, we put a fan in the baby's room (not directly aiming at him) and we found the white noise from it really helped improve his sleep. We're still putting the fan on at night for the white noise but ideally I'd like to replace it with something, and I was just wondering what other people used for white noise. I'm considering something like a toniebox for the future, but do they also play white noise? I'd be grateful for any recommendations please. My son is 18 months old. Thanks.

We still use a fan for my child, but I switch it off when I'm going to bed at midnight and she's in a deep sleep.
Alexa can do white noise too, but I never mastered how to get it to play all night.

I had a clunky old battery operated one from my MIL (Pre iPhones etc) and it just had a variety of sounds and a timer. Very straight forward.

YouJustDoYou · 10/01/2024 21:05

I used an ipad and put on no ad continuous white noise black screen videos on , for example. Or there's aps.

Peachyscream · 10/01/2024 21:06

I use the dream egg white noise machine. (On Amazon) really straight forward

Daffodilsandbees · 10/01/2024 21:07

I couldn’t get Alexa to play white noise all night but the Google Dot can. We ask it to “play white noise for [12] hours” or set up a Routine so you can say something that’s less of a mouthful.

RainbowUtensils · 10/01/2024 21:08

Yoto player does white noise, don't know about Tonie box though

headcheffer · 10/01/2024 21:08

We used the dream egg mentioned above with my first. Didn't bother with my second Grin

Daffodilsandbees · 10/01/2024 21:08

We also have the Dream Egg white noise machine mentioned above which we usually use for buggy naps and it works great overnight on holidays

LapinR0se · 10/01/2024 21:08

There’s an app called Sound Sleeper. I had an old iPad and put the app on it, continuous white noise, no breaks, doesn’t use Wi-Fi

Buttons0522 · 10/01/2024 21:09

Alexa; play white noise on repeat.
Bonus is you can also play on your phone when travelling away from home

Bundeena · 10/01/2024 21:09

We use an Alexa

'Alexa play rain sounds'

You can set it to loop so it doesn't stop.

SheFliesLikeABirdInTheSky · 10/01/2024 21:11

YES to Dream Egg from Amazon or Ebay. Amazing. Works so well. Can't hear anything outside the room, and it sends you off to sleep so well. Smile When I got it (in 2022) it was £25.

White noise machine available on Amazon and the like. Small, compact and rechargeable so can take anywhere. Few different noise settings and a light too.

BurbageBrook · 10/01/2024 21:33

Alexa white noise sounds very static-y and horrible to me, so I subscribed to a white noise playlist on Spotify which is easier on the ear.

HateMyRubbishBoss · 10/01/2024 21:35

An app called Sleepstream (it has also fire, waves, wind etc)

my older is 12, and he’s still using jt 🤔

This says it has various timers but we just run it all night. It also has a light with two brightness settings which is perfect for the occasional night waking.

We used an apple pod. It's really handy now she's older as we put podcasts on it and she can play music through it too. A worthwhile investment

bettynutkins · 10/01/2024 22:26

Another dream egg vote

Lexie99 · 11/01/2024 08:11

Thanks for the recommendations, everyone. I didn't expect so many replies. I don't have an Alexa, but I'll definitely look into all the other suggestions x

I use this. There is a variety of white noise and fan sounds, but it's only every on one of the fan sounds here. Very good!
