9 month old - is he on track?

He can’t wave/point. He can clap, mainly to himself, not when asked. His motor skills are fine - he crawls, pulls to stand and feeds himself really well. He babbles - a mixture of shrieks, ahhhhs and babababa type thing, and if you say AHHHH he will say AHHHH back (have tested this a few times to make sure it’s not coincidence!). He makes good eye contact, responds to his name and always turns to me when I enter the room or he hears my voice after a few minutes silence. He always returns a smile/laugh. He knows a couple of words, if I ask him where his dolly is he will crawl to his ballerina doll, or look towards the sky if I say ‘where’s the bird’. He looks for my attention when he’s doing something he thinks is clever or interesting, but not as much if he’s just sat there banging toys together. He looks when I point something out to him.

All the same age babies I know seem to be using gestures but he isn’t. Does he sound on track please?

I know it's easier said than done, but please don't compare to other babies it will always only make you worry. We all have a habit of bragging about what our babies can do, but never what is worrying us on what they can't! So for example my DC is almost one, can wave and point and has been for a long time but doesn't crawl, I have no concerns as they HATE tummy time so much will push up to sit from there belly, scoot on bum pull up eyc ☺️ Trust your intuition and if you have concerns talk to HV.

I’m not worried about physical milestones because they tend to develop at some point, it’s more the communication/emotional side of things I worry about.

Hello! I’d totally forgotten about this thread. DS is now 14 months and has come on in leaps and bounds.
Communication-wise he can say about 10 words and some animal noises, understands loads, points to show me things he finds interesting (does this a lot!) and also to request things like his beaker or toys out of reach. He loves playing games and is very social.
Physically he is walking, dancing, scooting about on his little trike and basically right on track.
He seemed to concentrate on walking first and mastered this around 12 months, then came out with his first words. I think it’s true they do on or the other first but not both at the same time (generally speaking).
