Help - Childcare problem with 2 year old

Didn't want to post this in childminders or nurseries as its a bit of both.

We have a fab childminder DS loves her, so far so good. She doesn't work alternate Fridays but until now we have had her friend another CM who looks after DS on these days and her holidays, plus my Mum has done some of the days as well. This worked really well because all the children met up at playgroup once a week anyway, plus came over once a weel as well so DS very comfortable and happy in both places.

Back up CM has now got another job and I feel its too much for my Mum to do every fortnight, plus they have holidays and so forth. I asked a neighbour if she was able to help out on the odd day as she has 3 boys who DS plays with and she agreed. Well took DS over there and he howled like a banshee even when I was there so we couldn't stay. Went to see the local nursery to see if he could just do Friday there but they said that once a week wasn't ideal as the children don't settle. Am currently catting another mumsnetter who is a cm to see if she is available and interested

We can just about juggle holidays to manage it, but then doesn't leave any slack for illness or other circumstances.
Is it worth trying to get him to settle with someone else as well, or do you think its too much for him to deal with at his age, just about to turn 2 and we should just leave it ?

how old is he?

my DS is 21 months and only goes to nursery half day a week and has no problems with it (loves it in fact) so I don't think the nursery's argument holds much water.

Thanks for your replies. I think rookietoddler was a bit of sorts when I took him over on Monday as he didn't sleep a jot on Monday night. But now back to usual self so ok with other people. Interesting to know that both yours settled at nursery without a problem.
