Tips for getting through winter with a newborn

I hate the winter and struggle to get out of bed and motivated throughout the dark months. Summertime I find it easy to get up at 6am and do a workout and make the most of the day.

I have 7 YO and a 2 week old. The Christmas period has kept me busy but the weather has been so miserable I've barely been outside and I feel like this will be it now until April.

Any tips on keeping sane over the next few months, motivated and not wrapped in a blanket on the sofa.

You just need good clothing. I had a 2 year old and a baby during the 2018 Beast from the East. We were out everyday. Walking to playgroups was great because you're getting out and about then into the warm and very cheap coffee.

Same for walking to rhyme time at the library. So that was 3 mornings sorted. Cheap lunch somewhere and then on to a park or sometimes soft play if weather really awful.

Buy it's not often this rainy and windy consistently. You'll have some cold days but lots will be dry.

I walked a lot getting both of them to nap. Sometimes they would both stay asleep and I could get a good hour reading in a cafe.

I'm planning on school run and do a long walk on the way back. I just just can't cope with the cold miserable weather really affects my moods and seems constant at the minute

I had a winter baby too and when the weather was really bad, used to drive to the nearest shopping centre and have a mooch around the shops and stop for coffee or lunch to feed her. if cold but dry I would just go out for walks. We had a dog so she needed to get out anyway.

Do you have a group of antenatal women?

Soft play? Libraries? Baby groups? There's lots of indoor stuff you can do too.
