My DS 3 used to be the most independent and laid back child but since he has turned 3 it's like he's had a personality transplant.

One way this is manifesting is he has become very attached to me in particular. He asks for me when he's at nursery and doesn't want to leave me in the morning. But more strangely he used to love his gran more than anyone (more than me!) and even now when he's with her he's asking for me.

He stayed overnight recently and she said he woke up asking for me which is unheard of. Normally he doesn't want to leave hers.

He also wants to sleep with me or me sleep with him.

Is this normal 3 year old behaviour?

Very normal.

@Soontobe60 thank you! I was getting worried because it's so unlike him.

Very normal. My three year old wouldn’t take his coat off when we went to visit my mother and screamed if I went out in the evening and left him with his father. I had to be careful not to put tea things out for a babysitter in the kitchen if he was still up. He grew up, went to school and at 19 went round the world with a friend without phoning home. Your son will be fine.
