I’m hoping someone can help…

DS 11 months has started biting me horrendously when feeding. I had this issue a little with my DD but nothing like this. He will suck, bite, suck suck, bite, suck, bite and it’s horrible. I started off ignoring it since I wanted to avoid a big reaction incase it encouraged him to do it more. Then it got worse and became impossible not to react so I say ‘no’ sternly and unlatch him. He gets very upset when I say no to him like that. All day he has refused to feed off one side after I said no earlier on. He pushes himself away and cries. It makes me quite concerned about whether he’s having enough, especially since he’s poorly and has gone off solids. He won’t take milk in a cup and I’ve never given him a bottle (also would be pointless now at his age).

it makes me want to stop but I don’t think that’s even an option because he won’t accept an alternative.

any wise words??

I unlatched and put him down every time he bit. Only for a few seconds and then I'd pick him up and start feeding again.

Ds does this when congested or teething. Its horrific!! I unlatch, say "sore" and sign sore then wait until he wants more and then we try again. It can be very hit and miss and some days he barely fed because of it but at least he was doing OK with water and solids. I'd try to work out why it's happening and treat that, eg does he need some steam and help to clear his nose before feeding, or some calpol for his teeth 30 minutes before you're due to feed? I also found making sure he was properly supported in against me and not distracted helped him focus and singing also distracted us both so it encouraged a letdown and then he wouldn't bite. It's really hard I feel for you!

Teething?? Maybe find something for him to bite on inbetween your feeds. That may satisfy his urge
