Toddlers... wow...

Had a wonderful amazing sweet 18 month old DS. Until this week...

He has turned into a demon! A little early for the terrible 2s...

I wasn't prepared for the literal over night change. I must say if we are out and I say dont run there or touch that and hold mummy's hand he does but at home it's quite the opposite.

Reason for my post... i can handle most of it but please throw me some tips, especially with the nappy changes. I actually dread them because he will cry scream and kick me in the face until its over. Earlier he managed to escape during one with a chunk of poo which I am now delightfully scrubbing from my carpet.

Or do I just need to buy a lot of wine?

Completely normal
Just be consistent and patient

It will get better xx

SErunner · 22/12/2023 21:32

It is all normal. For poo nappy changes, sit to the side of him with your body facing his side, and gently pin him down with one leg out straight below his arms, across his chest/tummy so you have both hands free. It only took a few days of this for our daughter to get the message that poo nappy changes were no joke! She gets the choice to lie down or stand up for just wee nappy changes.

We had the terrible 2s early as well. Started around 18 months but also finished early as well from about 2 and 3/4 months we had very few tantrums x

DD was in pull ups by that age and poo changes involved standing at the coffee table being read to whilst wiping. Distraction is key!

My son was the devil from about 18-20 months. Daily tantrums.

Suddenly he got better and now at almost 22 months he’s so perfect it’s almost scary.

I think he is pulling you into a false sense of security. 👌

The toddler phase is hard, even if you have a relatively easy going one!

I quite often contemplate having another child and then see someone with their toddler and reconsider immediately!

It’s all normal though and does pass!

My 2 in March toddler is horrendous, he has been having screaming temper tantrums for ever. My older child was never too bad so DC2 has been a shock. Lots of firm boundaries and picking your battles. I'm really hoping he comes out of a it a bit earlier.

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 24/12/2023 00:13

My son will be 2 in February and he's started in the last few weeks. When he gets into a tantrum it's like someone has replaced him with a gremlin. The noises he makes are ridiculous and goes on a long time.

My daughter didn't really go through this stage so it's been a massive shock.

Amrythings · 24/12/2023 00:22

There was a while around 18 months where you practically had to sit on DS4 to change his nappy. Whoever wasn't changing him had to do a distraction and god help you if you were by yourself. Tasmanian devil would have been easier.

That particular routine magically stopped the day my mother busted out the teacher voice on him. So if you've got any retired school teachers in the family?

MuchTooTired · 24/12/2023 00:24

My DTs were utter turds between 2-4. Delightful before and after, but that age range is the reason I’m not having any more kids because I just cannot do it again!

Only advice for nappy changing is do it on the floor, and pin them with one of your legs and get fast at changing them 😉

Thanks all - glad to hear others angels turned into monsters around this time..! Will try all of these tips out

Basically tag teaming it with DP at the moment and next week it will be nursery's problem 4 days a week 😆 (although I'm told he is an absolute angel there all day 🫠)

I was super broody until about a month ago....
