Just turned 3 if that makes a difference ?

@BrimfulOfMash my example was to say that a full length ballet only worked for my performing arts obsessed child at 5. at just turned 3 - i didn’t try, but unlikely. And that is with the visual component, but without words. Musicals worked from 4 (his first musical was Joseph).
We’ll try opera over christmas (he’s 6 now), a concert maybe in summer (he enjoys school concerts, but they are only 60 min or so).
He is unusual though.

My youngest ds would have but doubtful any of my other dc would have. Don't risk it if the death stare of other ticket holder's would offend you op.

Yes, but we're not a typical family, ND and high IQ.

Right, I hope I'm wrong, but I think you're saying that a neurodivergent 3y olds with a high IQ is more likely to sit through a 2 hour concert?

🤣🤣

I don't know where to start ...

knittedbonnet · 20/12/2023 19:25

Well, sort of yes. I'm not saying that all ND children obviously, but there are some ND children who are extremely extremely "well behaved" in that they do as they are told in a way Nt probably wouldn't .
I might have only made a passing remark to my 14 month old and then I'd realise that he'd taken in what I said and acted religiously upon it.
If I 'd said to sit quietly so as not to disturb others, he would have done just that.

I know perfectly well that it's not the case for the majority of ND, but it's not exactly typical behaviour of NT children either O wouldn't say.

shakeitoffsis · 20/12/2023 19:28

Yes my 3 year old sat at the panto lovely for 2 hours.

BloodyAdultDC · 20/12/2023 19:36

Having just paid nearly £200 to attend a concert which was ruined by selfish parents who refused to remove their unruly, loud and insufferably distracting child, please just don't op.

Just don't. You won't enjoy it, your dc won't enjoy it and you'll really piss off everyone around you.

Mourningmorningsleep · 20/12/2023 19:43

Hard no, my 3 year old has never even managed to watch something longer than the snowman (25 minutes) on the TV.

Concernedfriend2023 · 20/12/2023 19:43

My DD recently enjoyed Matilda when she was 3.5, but she had seen the film version first and loves the songs, so that probably helped. DS when he was that age, no chance.

everhopefulagain · 20/12/2023 19:52

No chance!

Terrrence · 20/12/2023 19:55

No, be lucky to get him to sit quietly for half an hour at a concert.

Gowlett · 20/12/2023 19:56

No. My kid doesn’t do sitting!

CornishGem1975 · 20/12/2023 20:03

I mean, he sat quietly at the cinema for two hours so I guess in theory yes? But with a fair amount of snacks and depends how interested he is in what's going on.

kimchio · 20/12/2023 20:04

No way

LoreleiG · 20/12/2023 20:06

No.

Two hours of Peppa Pig episodes - maybe.

DottyDop · 20/12/2023 20:11

Nope!!

Caffeineislife · 20/12/2023 20:15

Mine - absolutely no way, I'd be lucky to get 5 minutes. Most of my mum friends kids - ditto no way at all.

However, my best friend's DS - absolutely, he has sat through whole Disney films from 2 and went to the panto at 18 months and sat through it no problem.

One of the braggy ladies from NCT's DD sat through a west end performance of the lion king at 2 and 1/2. She is a very placid child.

It all depends on the personality of the child.

RowanMayfair · 20/12/2023 20:16

Absolutely not

MercanDede · 20/12/2023 20:16

🤣😅 not a chance. 5 mins definitely, 10 mins on a good day. Mine is like a hummingbird.

SgtJuneAckland · 20/12/2023 20:23

What kind of concert? DS is 'lively' a non stop fidgety pain in the backside but will sit still in the theatre for ages, absolutely mesmerised, he's just 5 but he could sit through a 60-90 minute show at 2.5 and first panto was 2.5 hours and he was as good as gold, he was 3 for that, he saw the lion king in the west end before his 4th birthday and we also took him to a music festival in the summer (child loves a heavy guitar riff) and he couldn't have been happier but spent most of it dancing.

2 hours of church music or barry manilow and an expectation to sit perfectly still would be more of a challenge

RedRobyn2021 · 20/12/2023 20:31

My almost 3yo would sit through a 2 hour film in the cinema or theatre panto, I'm not sure if she would enjoy a concert or not, what kind is it?

Ratfinkstinkypink · 20/12/2023 20:35

Yes, I believe he would. He's blind with huge developmental delay (he's only developed head control in the last 12 months, has no speech, can't sit unaided, doesn't yet hold a toy) but music is his 'thing' so this would be one thing he could do that lots of his peers might struggle with. He absolutely loves music and theatre but especially music.

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 20/12/2023 20:35

A long time ago now - but no, definitely not - unless he was asleep.

MirandaWest · 20/12/2023 20:43

I can’t remember exactly but DS was either 2 or 3 when we went to see the Tiger who came to Tea which he sat all the way through although can’t remember how long it was (he is 20 now!) It was his favourite book when DD was born when he was 22 months and he could probably have recited it word for word 😃

Bippitybobbityboing · 20/12/2023 20:46

No a chance!
He first sat through a film at the cinema at that age but only with an age appropriate film and snacks.

A concert where there are no visuals?
No
