Would your three year old sit in a concert for two hours?

Just turned 3 if that makes a difference ?

Yes but it's so kid-specific. We avoided any expensive west end type shows at that age as I didn't think it'd be appreciated. Kid friendly theatre/pants etc we did and enjoyed.

gotomomo · 20/12/2023 13:31

Yes but don't think mine are typical!

They were 3&5 first time we took them to the west end, saw les miserables when they were 4&6 and took dd1 to the opera for her 5th birthday ... she's autistic and music is "her thing" dd2 slept through the first opera she went toGrin

Allmarbleslost · 20/12/2023 13:36

Depends what it is. Mine would sit through a kids show or pantomime at that age.

No. He was about 3 and his playgroup did a puppet show. 30 mins max, with lots of interaction. It was bedlam, not one of the 2.5 to 4 year olds could sit still and quiet.
It was 30 mins of parents trying to wrangle kids to be still.

Jackfrostnippingatmynose · 20/12/2023 13:43

Nope

MrsAvocet · 20/12/2023 13:46

It's a long time since I had a 3 year old but I would say generally not. Though it will of course depend on the child, the concert and what exactly is meant by "sit". I don't think there are many 3 year olds who would sit completely still and silent in a concert hall listening to 2 hours of Prokofiev without a break, but more would manage a visually appealing child orientated show where some audience noise is acceptable and indeed to be expected, and there's a decent interval.
We took my DD to see The Tweenies Live at Manchester Arena when she was just 3 and she was absolutely entranced by it (don't think it was 2 hours though) but we waited quite a few years before we took her to the Bridgewater Hall!
For most 3 year olds and most concerts I'd say 2 hours is far too long and likely to end in (several peoples) tears.

Dinoswearunderpants · 20/12/2023 13:47

No chance. Unless the concert was makka pakka playing his og pog and even then two hours is a push.

If you insist on taking them, take the tablet, headphones, snacks, small toys and be prepared for plenty of toilet breaks.

Please don't take a tablet the light it omits is really annoying for people seated behind you.

thelonemommabear · 20/12/2023 13:58

Christ absolutely not! Why would you put yourself through that 😂 and if nota specifically aimed at young children not fair on others around you to have a bored toddler around

Superscientist · 20/12/2023 14:11

On a good day yes but the odds are against her having a good day when required are slim

tumblebumbleweed · 20/12/2023 14:11

Weirdly yes he did! He's almost 2 1/2, I had ZERO confidence that he would but he amazed me by being totally in a trance and sat for nearly 2 hours (split by an interval) I kept staring at him checking he hadn't fallen asleep or something!

Child friendly show and loads of others around same age who all seemed to be equally sitting still! Very odd.... Grin

LubaLuca · 20/12/2023 14:18

No, at best they'd fall asleep. I could take them to the cinema for kids' screenings at that age, but I wouldn't have risked disturbing live performers and a mainly adult audience at a concert.

pizzaHeart · 20/12/2023 14:21

No way, and she would sit longer then average at this age

BrimfulOfMash · 20/12/2023 14:22

Really engaging theatre show: yes for about 45 mins
A concert: no not at all!

No snacks or toys at classical concerts either please. I want to be able to concentrate on the intricacies of Rachmaninoff's inner voicings and how they resolve to a main cadence fifteen bars on (for eg) when I'm at an art music performance, and some fool scuttling around with dried fruit for their child does throw one off beam rather.

BrimfulOfMash · 20/12/2023 14:25

Why are people saying ‘yes’ with examples of theatre, ballet, opera, musicals etc? All these have visuals and movement, and are not concerts.

summerlovingvibes · 20/12/2023 14:26

My 3 year old would watch a theatre performance for 2 hours. Did this weekend.

But wouldn't sit through an orchestral performance.

Tessisme · 20/12/2023 14:38

Neither of mine would have. We took DS2 to see his older brother in the Peace Proms. He was 7, so much older than 3. The show was around 2 hours.

When is this over? What time is it? How long have we been here? When is this over? When will that lady stop singing? How long does it take to get home? When is this over?

On repeat.

The only thing that got us through was the time spent trying to pick out his brother in the vast sea of kids. And loads of treats🤣

ManonDe · 20/12/2023 14:43

Nope. My 14 and 11 year olds wouldn't either without fuss. At just turned 3? no way.

WhatNoRaisins · 20/12/2023 14:44

Yes but they'd be really wriggly and need the toilet a lot.

VivaVivaa · 20/12/2023 16:22

No. Potentially if he was having a good day and it was something he was extremely interested in with a good break in the middle. But I still wouldn’t risk it.

SaltyGod · 20/12/2023 16:34

Possibly with my eldest who I could distract with stickers etc, not the others.

2hrs is long, very long for a wriggly toddler.

I’m not sure I would have a good time, I’d be anxious about disturbing others.

turkeyboots · 20/12/2023 16:36

Nope.

Shayisgreat · 20/12/2023 16:42

At 3 my DS sat through a 1 hour show (Smeds and the Smoos) but was fiddling and fidgeting towards the end and asking when it would be over. At 5 he will sit through a 2 hour show as long as there's an interval but it's still a bit long for him.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 20/12/2023 16:44

No- sounds like hell
