Baby sleeping a lot!

Hi Guys,

I’m sorry this is long!

3 weeks ago I would have laughed if you told me I’d be writing this but here we are.
My 5 month old has been great to sleep by night - usually 11 hours with one feed during the night.
However his naps were brutal for weeks. Waking after 30mins always and needing to be rocked for ages to go back to sleep or else would only sleep on me. If I left him awake after the 30mins he was very irritable.
He got 4 month vaccines 3weeks ago and is now sleeping so much. 8pm to 6am with one dream feed in between, then wakes roaring for his bottle and within 30 mins is wrecked again. Has been going back to sleep from 7am to 10am and doing another long nap in the afternoon plus one short one. He’s also very tired an hour into his wake windows.
I feel like I have nowhere to turn. People think I’m mad and should enjoy it but is this normal? Should I be worried? Surely he doesn’t need this much sleep.
He goes to sleep himself no problem once laid into the crib each time. No fighting it when he always would have.
is he just a baby that needs lots of sleep? is this common? I also notice he was great to drink his bottles but since those vaccines he’s been fighting them which he never did before!

Thank you x

It might also be related to him having gone through the 4 month sleep regression and coming out the other side a better sleeper? It may be completely coincidental and nothing related to the jabs. After the sleep regression, my son started sleeping through the night suddenly when before he was a terrible sleeper. It lasted a month and then he went back to being a terrible sleeper! Have you spoken to your health visitor if youre concerned that he's sleeping too much?

Thank you for your reply x

Yes I was thinking that maybe it’s just because it’s following a period of regression and will go back to normal. I brought him to the doctor but they just seem to think I’m lucky with him.. I’m just concerned by the naps more than anything. How he can sleep 12 hours and then more or less all day long is really alarming. He we always so bad to nap! I need to get a urine sample from him today so hopefully that will be clear and will rule out anything.
