Is it just me.....3 year old dd1

She is 3 and a half and its like she's going through adolescence early.

Answering back, everythings yuk/disgusting, tantrums over the smallest thing, rude....please tell me this is a phase!!

My youngest is the same age. It MIGHT be a phase, but in my experience if you don't teach them that you will not be spoken to rudely when they're little, they tend to carry on doing it .

Tantrums are a different matter - they can happen for all sorts of reasons, but always answering back and talking to you as if you are nobody DOES need to be tackled now.

Sounds like my DS some days....we even get the "5 more minutes" & him pulling the duvet back over his head when we wake him up in the morning

...I'm going with the phase theory atm & muttering "..this too shall pass..." at every opportunity.

I have had this conversation with a LOT of other mothers over the last few months and we all are going through it with our dds (all around 3 to 4). Lots of brattish behaviour all round. Where have the charming babies gone??

It does seem to have coincided with starting nursery. She has never been like this before. I am taking a hard line over the rudeness (lots of time out/loss of toys etc) but it is zapping my energy. Tried to have a chat with her at bedtime tonight as it has been such a draining day...and there was me feeling quite smug I'd never had the terrible twos to deal with!

Ah yes, the threenager.
Lots of us have had one. Seriously. do a search on that word. Four is quite tough too, but 5-8 is lovely I'm told!

Three was the hardest age with both mine. Seven is comparatively bearable (though ds seems to get quite angry). Eleven is lovely. Really lovely. Though of course, the terrible teens are just round the corner.

Me too, DD 3 went to her room and slammed her door yesterday thought that was more age 13 behaviour!
Never had this with DS who was/is the opposite and he is 6 which is a lovely age in fact he has always been at a lovely age, maybe its just the female of the species
