Babies holding breath

My midwife told me that babies hold their breath for about 10 seconds, anything longer is a worry/m. My baby is nearly 8 weeks and for some reason regularly holds her breath, albeit only for a few second at a time and if it looks like it’s going on too long for my liking I do gently blow on her fade to remind her to take a breath.
jjst curious if anyone knows the reason why babies do this?

My son occasional does this at 2 and a half, it causes him to go stiff, faint and turn blue which is terrifying. He normally does it as a reaction to shock and a tantrum where he gets overally upset.

When we saw the consultant, they said children aren't trying to do it, and its not intentional. It is just their panic and reaction to something they almost always just grow out of it with age. I would still get your babies checked out if you haven't already, though.
