Please tell me the silliness and over excitement on steroids gets better with age?! Or medication?
DS is 8, not yet medicated. We’ve had the typical behaviour of getting up when he should stay seated, distracting others, silly noises and defiance at nursery and school since he was 3, although it’s varied from teacher to teacher and was worse in pre school and then again Year 1. Since Year 2 he’s done much better and he is learning what’s acceptable and not.

This time of year (and the end of the summer term) is always rough for us, but man, he is testing us. If he’s not grumpy and over emotional, he’s just complete silly and always, always takes things too far. He almost gets into a trance at times where he’s difficult to snap out of, this is always worse when with friends or others rather than just us at home. He’s particularly bad when someone is a bit forward about shutting down anything, case example my MIL who as soon as he says something silly but harmless like a poo joke, she tells him not to and it’s almost like a green light for him to keep pushing and pushing rather than a cue to stop like it probably is for NT children.

I just want it to get better. We adore him and we really try and parent for his condition, but so many of the boundaries are non negotiable.

Ask Mumsnet to move your thread to "special needs" then "SN children" by reporting your own post.

Those threads do not appear on active.

Oh in regards to your MIL and other adults rather than mentioning what he said, she either needs to ignore or better still distract him by talking about something completely different. Works for some of the folks I know with ADHD.
