When did your DC reliably sleep through?

AllTheTeaInTown · 14/12/2023 21:21

Other than the occasional (once or twice a month) wake up. By sleep through I mean, reliably doing at least 9-10 hours!

If there were any tough phases of poor sleep at what ages did they occur and how many days/weeks did it go on for?

Just trying to gauge what is most usual though appreciate there will be a wide range as everyone’s different!

Both of mine were about six to eight weeks but this was many years ago. They were both in their own rooms at this time and if they had a little cry before they went to sleep it wasn’t frowned upon or seen as abuse or neglect as it appears to be nowadays.

Hollyhead · 15/12/2023 06:18

Both sometime between 12 and 18 months when we sleep trained. Went from 2/3 wake ups a night to 12 hours with no regressions.

Haveyouseenthemuffinman · 15/12/2023 06:23

DS1: 12 months, and then after seven months or so, he started being awake for 2-3 hours at a time; he was 4 until we got to reliable every day again. If someone had told me then he’d be my best sleeper I would have wept inconsolably.

DS2: at 7, we’re still waiting. I’d say he sleeps through about 50% of the time now, having never made it through the night until 5. I did everything “right” with this one; gentle sleep training, harsher sleep training, putting down awake. Yup. He hadn’t read the textbook.

DS3: has been fairly good since 3. Probably wakes up 1-2 times a night. Sleep training time coincided with COVID when we were knackered from working full time and looking after three children (so basically working til midnight) and there was nothing left in the tank for us to do the sleep training that is suspect might have helped.

I would have contemplated a fourth but I feel the lack of sleep has knackered me so much.

Passingthethyme · 15/12/2023 06:26

Around 9 months for 12 hours at night, had always been a good sleeper

tokesqueen · 15/12/2023 06:45

DC1 three months
DC2 four months

Coincided with stopping bf and putting them in their own room. Also wasn't afraid to leave them to whinge a bit and they never ever came into our bed.
Twenty years on, all good.

Jellybean85 · 15/12/2023 06:49

Reliably from about 16 months with all three

YourNameGoesHere · 15/12/2023 06:53

Age 3 years here too.

I used to laugh when people mentioned sleep regressions. To regress one first needs to sleep. 🤣

Mere1 · 15/12/2023 06:56

I had prem twins. They slept thru when they were 3 years and 2 months old.

ACynicalDad · 15/12/2023 06:59

About 12 weeks and 26-20 weeks for number 2. It’s the dog that wakes us up.

mrssunshinexxx · 15/12/2023 07:00

Mines 2 and 3.5 years and still not there yet

Somewhere between 15 and 18 months, after a brutal sleep regression around 12 months.

In our NCT group (purely anecdotal obviously) it seemed to be related to walking. The earlier they walked, the earlier they slept through. DD was a late walker.

Interesting DS mostly slept through by 12 weeks, walked at 10.5 months.

MaverickSnoopy · 15/12/2023 07:03

DC1 - 6 weeks
DC2 - 6 months
DC3 - 6 months

However both DC2 and 3 were the champions of 5am starts, DC3 still is at 5yo.

SouthLondonMum22 · 15/12/2023 07:10

12 hours by 8 weeks. We did a mix of Gina Ford and The Baby Whisperer and it worked like a dream.

He recently turned 1 and hasn't had a sleep regression so far, the only time he's unsettled at night is if he has a cold/teething etc.

GettingItWrong33 · 15/12/2023 07:10

Both 7 months - sleep training

Wallflower3 · 15/12/2023 07:43

12 weeks

Interesting theory! My early to sleep through baby also walked early- 6 weeks and 9 months. My other child was 6 months and 12 months so probably bang on average for both. I wonder if it’s ever been scientifically linked??

itsgettingweird · 15/12/2023 07:52

Reliably?

13 😂😂

That isn't the norm though as my ds is autistic and had anxiety. He's now a swimmer and up at 4am 🫣

Hopefully yours will be much younger!

AndThatWasNY · 15/12/2023 07:53

9 weeks, 8 weeks, 5 weeks. Then all 3 lost it at 4 months. I ended up doing CC as so exhausted I couldn't see straight at about 10 months. Then most nights they slept through unless ill or teething.

fpqand · 15/12/2023 07:54

Between 8-9 months for both of mine, basically the month I stopped BF and switched to formula (due to going back to work) they slept through. Annoying, but true, for us.

Mummyme87 · 15/12/2023 08:01

DS1 probably 18months
DS2 2.5yrs
praying DS3 will get the sleep memo

Blughbablugh · 15/12/2023 08:10

DD 12 months, DS still waiting, he's 2.5 yrs!

Superscientist · 15/12/2023 08:53

We had 3 months just before 3 when she would reliably sleep until 4-5 then come to us and sleep until 7-8+

Then her reflux stopped being controlled by medication and she was crying constantly awake and asleep and audibly refluxing so I was sat up with her to keep her upright all night.

Her reflux is very sensitive and is only ever just managed by meds so all growth spurts and colds and allergic reaction cause it to get bad again and her sleep is trashed

We went away with friends who's child slept through from 7 but was up for the day at 4. It's all swings and roundabouts with sleep! I wake up at least twice drinking 200ml to 1l water going to the loo having a panic attack needing to blow my nose. I have the benefit of being able to articulate that these are the reasons I have woken up!
