When did your DC reliably sleep through?

AllTheTeaInTown · 14/12/2023 21:21

Other than the occasional (once or twice a month) wake up. By sleep through I mean, reliably doing at least 9-10 hours!

If there were any tough phases of poor sleep at what ages did they occur and how many days/weeks did it go on for?

Just trying to gauge what is most usual though appreciate there will be a wide range as everyone’s different!

My DS4 will only sleep through in bed with me. He goes to bed in his room and will climb into bed with me around 4/5am most nights. Hes goes back to sleep without a word and sometimes I don't even feel him get in so its hardly disruptive

Mumaway · 14/12/2023 21:42

Mine have always been good at sleeping through, DD1 from about 4 months, DD2 very quickly, about 6 weeks. However, the night for them was 6pm to 430/5am FOR YEARS and it nearly broke me. While it was great to have some evening time to myself, I had to go to bed at 8pm in order to function at stupid o'clock in the morning. From age 8 they moved to 730pm-7am which is a lot better!

Icannoteven · 14/12/2023 21:43

My first took 22 months to sleep through the night for the first time. She has never really slept more than 7 or 8 hours a night though (she is now 10) and just would NOT have regular naps as a baby. Terrible, terrible sleeper. Takes literally hours to wind down to sleep, even now.

2nd child slept like a dream. Was doing a good 5 hour stretch from birth. Slept through for a full night reliably from around 6 weeks (after a dream feed). Wild.

Both DC it was 4 years old.

Icannoteven · 14/12/2023 21:50

Ugh, I forgot to mention, my first has horrible sleep regressions around months 8 - 13. Also insisted on starting the day at 4.30. I was ebf, the little git wouldn’t take a bottle (though I think it was my pumped milk that was the issue - I think I have that kind of milk that tastes off if you pump?) and I almost died of exhaustion, I swear.

I made sure the second would take a bottle and gave her formula once a day so I would never be in that position again!

Nursemumma92 · 14/12/2023 21:51

DD1 is 5 and still doesn't reliably sleep through. DD2 is 11 months and has never slept longer than a 3 hour stretch in her life- and that's on a good night!

Hopingforno2in2024 · 14/12/2023 21:55

5 years old. It was at that point that we could face the thought of a second.

Christmassss · 14/12/2023 21:55

My three DC slept shortish nights at 8 weeks and 12 hours per night at 12 weeks.
I didn’t do co-sleeping and I always put them to bed awake do they learnt how to go to sleep by themselves.

wishIwasonholiday10 · 14/12/2023 21:57

Only one wake-up a night from around 3 months and sleeping through most nights from around 6-7 months.

As soon as I went back to work at 12 months she stopped sleeping through due to teething and constant illnesses and have barely had a good nights sleep for the last 6 months.

Snugglemonkey · 14/12/2023 21:58

Dc1 3 1/2 when at nursery school

Dc2 still not a bit if it, just turned 1

Pixiedust49 · 14/12/2023 22:13

DD was 11 and about to start secondary school! Even now ( she’s a teen) she’ll be moving about in the night she just doesn’t feel the need to wake us anymore ( much 😕)

spriots · 14/12/2023 22:15

When we sleep trained.

DS1 - 10 months
DS2 - 7 months

Both woke every 1-2 hours before that.

No, co-sleeping did not help

yikesanotherbooboo · 14/12/2023 22:32

DC1 never; but stopped coming in once at school.
DC2 6/7 months.
DC3 was certainly waking regularly through junior school .

finished31 · 14/12/2023 22:34

DD - 5.5 weeks slept 12 hours
DS - 6 weeks slept 10 hours but early riser at 6am 😭

Both bottle fed (if relevant)

AnOldCynic · 14/12/2023 22:42

4.5 years. I clearly remember waking up the first time and realising he was still in bed. Now I have to turf him out of it every morning.

Marblessolveeverything · 14/12/2023 22:43

DS 1 at six weeks
DS2 at 8 weeks
Both bottle fed.

SallyWD · 14/12/2023 22:47

12 months for both of them.

Beginningless · 14/12/2023 22:47

DD1 3
DD2 about 10months, after sleep training because I realised I would certainly die if I went through that level of sleep deprivation again…

converseandjeans · 14/12/2023 23:15

6 weeks & both in own room with monitor from the start. Did Gina Ford. DD did 7-7 and DS was 8-7. No crying involved despite the bad reviews on here.

MonkeyPuddle · 14/12/2023 23:20

DS was about 6mo expect a random week at 8mo where he kept sitting up in his cot but couldn’t figure out how to lay back down. He’s 6 now and still sleeps 7-7.
DD was 2.5. She was an absolute fucker to get to and stay asleep.

ErrolTheDragon · 14/12/2023 23:20

I'm not sure mine ever did! But turned into a sensible bedtime, 8hrs a night teenager rather than up till all hours so maybe it's swings and roundabouts.

Lizzieregina · 14/12/2023 23:20

8 hours reliably all 3 around 9/10 weeks.

A 12 hour night probably about 4 months.

Never experienced a sleep regression.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 15/12/2023 02:26

DS - 3 months
DD - 3y 3months

coxesorangepippin · 15/12/2023 02:31

DS = 3 months

DD= 18 months

It's absolutely brutal op, I feel your pain

itsybitsyteenytot · 15/12/2023 04:08

DS1 - 7.5 years
DS2 - 5.5 years
It was incredibly tough
