Did anyone have two similar babies?

Just that, always hear about new babies being really different and appreciate everyone is unique, but did anyone have two babies who were broadly similar in terms of temperament, disposition, sleep etc.?

No like chalk & cheese and everyone I know with two says the same

SpaceJamtart · 14/12/2023 15:15

Yes, I have three. The eldest two are twins and they had a very similar temperment as babies, they both were good sleepers and were fairly calm and easy babies, which I was very grateful for with their being two of them.
Everyone warned me I would get a wildcard with my third but she was just the same- calm and generally settled and slept well.
They were all quite similar as toddlers too, but as they got older they have very different personalities now- even if their temperments are still quite similar

Currently have a 3.5 year old and nearly 4 month old. We thought we'd lucked out with our first as he had a super calm temperament, slept reasonably well (once we moved to co sleeping), and was just generally an easy baby. His brother is basically identical, or possibly even more chilled out. I think he's cried for about 15 minutes total in his life, sleeps 4 hour stretches, and generally seems incredibly happy and cheerful. Definitely feels like we won the baby temperament lottery!

My two were and still are completely different. Even from before birth they were different, so much so I thought the second had to be a boy, I was wrong 2 girls

jernemoon · 14/12/2023 15:50

I have 2 and they are broadly similar. Their sleep and eating was average and they both enjoyed similar kinds of baby/toddler groups. Where there are differences tbh I can't tell if it's down to their individual personalities or the fact that I've inevitably parented differently with DC2. I've not been able to offer the same undivided attention and that's going to be the case for all siblings really, so nobody is ever comparing like with like (except twins).

Sometimes I read threads here complaining about their babies and toddlers and I literally can't picture what they're complaining about, because my dcs have been similar enough and not had issues at all with certain things (eg refusing to sit in buggy, not listening in toddler groups, not enjoying swimming).

mumofatoddlerhelp · 14/12/2023 15:57

Yes I have a 3 old ds and 10 month ds. Both slept through from 3 months, both really happy chilled calm babies.

bogoblin · 14/12/2023 16:02

Yep, my two boys are. There are 2 years between them. Basically the same baby except if anything number 2 was chiller! Waiting to see what #3 is like now...

KatBurglar · 14/12/2023 16:03

Three very different babies and toddlers!

Tryingtoconceivenumber2 · 14/12/2023 16:12

I feel they are similar at the moment DD 3.5 years and DD 3 weeks. Similar temperament as babies so far, similar sleep pattern, both fairly happy babies. Only difference I have noticed is that DD2 seems far more motivated by food and is gaining weight at a much quicker rate than DD1 did x

yikesanotherbooboo · 14/12/2023 16:15

1st and 3rd were very similar; middle child is completely different.

Allthingsdecember · 14/12/2023 16:15

Both of mine were very similar newborns and slowly developed differences as the months went on. My baby is one now and nothing like his big brother was at that age.

VivaVivaa · 14/12/2023 17:25

My 3 yo and 5 month old have had some similar characteristics as babies. They both have liked to be out of the house, they both like people and they have both refused bottles/dummies. But generally no, DS1 is a demanding, highly strung, extremely intelligent whirl wing and has been since birth and DS2 is smiley, calm and chill (which DS1 definitely wasn’t). They both have their strengths.

lorisparkle · 14/12/2023 20:44

I have 3 ds and they have all been completely different. However what was strange was when I read The Baby Whisperer book and she described each of my ds amazingly well.

Overcome2023 · 14/12/2023 20:49

My two have grown up to be of quite different temperaments but were similar as babies. I don’t remember either of them being massively hard work, fed and slept okay, occasional difficult days/nights but overall they were both a pleasure (still are).

lorisparkle · 14/12/2023 20:52

Ds1 - challenging! Hardly slept, loved new and interesting food, very strong willed and independent

Ds2 - also challenging but in a different way, always on the go, unpredictable with sleep, amazing tantrums, only want short feeds, fussy eater

Ds3 - much easier as long as it was on his timetable. Would fall asleep independently if he was tired but not if overtired or not tired enough. Needed 45mins feed - could not be rushed! A real mummies boy as a baby/child.

Mustbethemulledwine · 14/12/2023 20:57

Nope. I have 3, and they're all very different. Raised the same, but their personalities and traits are all chalk and cheese! Eldest 2 are now teenagers, and they're still chalk and cheese.

MrsBigTed · 14/12/2023 21:04

Similar, but not identical. Both very chilled, eat and sleep well etc. They do have different quirks though, DS1 would only sleep upright, DS2 will not crawl will only bumshuffle.

Newnamesameoldlurker · 14/12/2023 21:06

My second is extremely similar to my first at the same age. It's like having the same baby twice!

SunPlant20 · 14/12/2023 21:12

Yes, 2 content and chill babies who fell into similar feeding and sleeping patterns. Post 9 months though, they were very different. One was very active and into everything and the other remained very chilled and sloth paced! So they grew to be different.

WonderingAboutThus · 14/12/2023 21:20

We had pretty similar kids (three of them), though as a parent I guess you tend to focus on the differences. So we always talk about the minor differences but really they were all laid-back, sleeping, easy.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 14/12/2023 21:36

Mine looked pretty identical, but totally different personalities. Still the same 12 years later.

hangingonfordearlife1 · 14/12/2023 21:44

all 3 of mine are completely different, first was golden very quiet although breastfed through the night and was very attached. 2nd didn't and still doesn't care about anyone or anything. Hellraiser. 3rd sleeps all night, on the go all day very loving but also very mischievous

TomatoSandwiches · 14/12/2023 21:51

All 3 of mine were very different from each other, 2 boys 1 girl, my DD is the middle one and she was much easier as a baby and toddler, DS1 my eldest got easier after 6yo is now a teen and a lovely young man.

Nottodaty · 14/12/2023 21:52

My two as babies very different- first colicky, would only take her bottles at a certain temp (back then you could pre-made them and store them in the fridge - she would never accept a not quite the right temp one) co-slept (for years) had to be on you or near you for her to hopefully have a nap! But she was a lovely toddler - played beautifully and she was very calm (except when I put her in her own room) My second was a lovely baby - slept well, took to breastfeeding easily , in her own room at six months…then she got to about 18mths a grew horns.

As older teenagers my eldest is still very calm & a rubbish sleeper. My younger one is still a wonderful whirlwind set to occasionally test my patience !

Cupcakekiller · 14/12/2023 22:01

My girl and boy are very different but they are ten years apart and have different dads.
