Homeopathic treatments

Has anyone used homeopathic treatments for their toddlers/children?

I've had my son at the doctor multiple times over the last few months due to ongoing sinus issues and a constant blocked nose. I'm getting no way with them because of his age they keep saying there isn't much they can give him.

I spoke to another health professional who said her son saw a homeopath for a similar issue as a teenager and it worked wonders.

Just wondering how safe it is?

Homoeopathy, assuming that you don’t avoid conventional medicine where it’s needed, is 100% safe because it’s either sugar pills, or water, with no trace of whatever the “active” ingredient was claimed to be.

Don’t confuse it with herbal remedies which may or may not be safe or effective, depending on many factors.

Coyoacan · 13/12/2023 19:50

As with everything, it depends on how good a doctor you get but I was given a remedy for sinusitis that worked in a matter of hours. Normally I would be sick for months

notmorezoom · 13/12/2023 19:51

Get yourself a small bottle, run some tap water into it and take two drops every night. It's scientifically exactly the same as homoeopathy for a fraction of the price.

The benefit of homoeopathy is the time that the practitioner spends with you - it's effectively counselling, the medicine itself is just a placebo.

As others have said, homeopathy is literally just water so perfectly safe.

bringmelaughter · 13/12/2023 19:54

Have you tried sinus rinses? Neilmed have a paediatric version. Homeopathy is pointless but there are non medication things like sinus rinses that may help.

Hello @YoungerHeart my family have used homoeopathic remedies successfully for many years, and generations, to treat us and our pets. A useful first stop would be Helios Homoeopathy online - they have first aid kits which will include several options for sinus problems - or you might prefer to find a local practitioner through the register, again that's online.

It is completely safe and can be extremely effective, so please ignore the naysayers and give it a try - a great many "normal" doctors now use Homoeopathy as complementary to standard medicine, with excellent results.

Redebs · 13/12/2023 20:12

Homeopathy is an absolute scam.
Don't waste your money.

Maybe you could post links to the peer reviewed studies?

Scirocco · 13/12/2023 20:34

Homeopathy is a scam. Zero evidence base and for it to work the basic laws underpinning the integrity of the universe as we understand it would have to be broken.

IsThePopeCatholic · 13/12/2023 20:38

Homeopathy is bullshit. Sugar water.

PastTheGin · 13/12/2023 20:42

Homeopathy is 100% safe as it is either sugar or water. It is also absolute codswallop, but I understand wanting to try anything to make your child better.

Orangello · 13/12/2023 20:44

Very safe - unless you use it instead of actual medicine in case of serious issues that require treatment. It's also just a placebo.

Jellykat · 13/12/2023 20:53

MN hates Homeopathy, so pretty pointless asking tbh..
I can recommend a really good homeopath (who is also a trained GP) if you happen to be in Gloucestershire!

HarrumphryBogart · 13/12/2023 21:22

The NHS website put the word treatment in inverted commas when describing homeopathy. Need I say more? Homeopathy - NHS (www.nhs.uk)

Of course it's safe. It's got no active ingredients....

😂

The million dollars that was offered a couple of decades ago to anyone who can prove scientifically that homoeopathy works hasn't been claimed. There are always some gullible folk around.................

fixed it for you. you're welcome.

Lilacdressinggown · 13/12/2023 21:59

100% safe.
100% ineffectual.
100% snake oil.

Jellykat · 13/12/2023 22:01

Predictable.. i knew someone would be on to try cause a row @Irresponsibly..
Am not interested in links tbh, i speak from personal experience, its worked for me (for whatever reason) in some pretty serious situations.. and thats that.

Jellykat · 13/12/2023 22:04

Oh now we have the snarky comments...👏

No really. This point of view has been pushed on all the mainstream media for thirty or forty years.

I live in a country where homeopathy is regularly used and works brilliantly

RosieCockle · 14/12/2023 03:23

How can sugar water "work brilliantly"?

YoungerHeart · 14/12/2023 06:44

Thanks all!

I just wanted to check as I've never used it before and didn't know if it was similar to herbal medicine.

OP posts:
Orangello · 14/12/2023 06:53

It is not similar to herbal medicine. It has no active ingredients.
