Feeling guilty for not deferring

DD started reception, she is the youngest in her class but i was reassured she was ready.
The teacher has advised me that DD is doing fine academically but is struggling socially, she is very reliant on one friend and doesn't play with anyone else. DD is quite dominated by this friend and I worry how she will manage socially moving forward. Has anyone had a young for year child and found things got better as the year went on?

I was a young in year child (July) and definitely struggled socially through primary, though never academically. Secondary was much better / easier as I did eventually mature socially, and I always really enjoyed the academic side of things. I’m so glad I didn’t get deferred a year as that would have meant spending an extra year at school when I was 18 and my age-group peers (from outside school) going off to uni while I was stuck at home!
