Why does my child ignore me?

Hearing fine.

’Would you like some toast?’

’Would you like a drink?’

examples of the sort of thing that just get totally blanked. I find it really rude - I know I’m guilty of projecting adult thoughts there but it is horrible. Why?

Waaay more info needed. Age? How often? Just you? Other people? Reaction when discussed/pointed out?

BertieBotts · 06/12/2023 16:44

How old are they?

Is their attention absorbed by something else?

When you say hearing fine - what are you basing this on? Have they had a hearing test? DC can be quite good at picking up on nonverbal signs so can seem to hear fine but actually aren't.

You need to explain more. How old? What else is going on? Were you in their eyeline? Has their hearing actually been checked?

Yeah I do this. It is rude and I do apologise. But typically I zone out when I’m thinking about various things. I literally don’t hear what’s going on around me.

Whydoeshe · 06/12/2023 16:54

Sorry, just turned 3. Should really have put that in the OP. Hearing is fine, trust me.

Distracted, thinking, playing probably the most likely reason.

maximumcarnage · 06/12/2023 16:57

Nice to know I’m on the same level as a 3 year old 😂

Hellocatshome · 06/12/2023 17:35

Probably just distracted/engrossed I dont think a just turned 3 year old is being deliberately rude to you.

Use their name first and get eye contact. Move closer to them if needed. Kids are floaty creatures
