6 week old keeps leaking at night!

I'm at my wits end. Every night my ds is waking up because his nappy has leaked. It's always on the back as well. I've tried bigger nappies, smaller nappies, tighter nappies, looser nappies but nothing works. It's draining me at this point because every night I'm having to do at least one complete outfit change which obviously wakes him up. Any suggestions welcome. I'm tearing my hair out now.

How often are you changing baby at night?

everybluesock · 06/12/2023 02:06

Use pampers dry nights

Lizbiz89 · 06/12/2023 02:09

@Guavafish1 not often, only if/when he needs a change. For example, he's leaked just now but his nappy is barely wet as I changed him just before bed. He's tall and narrow so I think this may have something to do with it. I've put 2 nappies on now in the hope that this may stop him from leaking.

Have you tried different brands? Perhaps your babies body shape would be better suited to a different style.

Lizbiz89 · 06/12/2023 02:11

@everybluesock I don't think they do pampers dry nights in size 2 do they?

Mum of 3 boys here, all high centiles for height. Size 3 pampers, pull them high up at the back. Mine literally went half way up their body. Do the tabs up the tightest at the front. Make sure leg frills are pulled out and always check for the willy direction in the nappy before doing it up- always downward! I always put mine in cheaper brands of the right size at that age, and pampers size 3 at nights. Oh and maybe sizing up In his vest too so it's not compressing the nappy.

Lizbiz89 · 06/12/2023 02:37

Thanks @Justbecause19 that's really helpful. Would size 3 be ok on 6 week old?

We used mama bamboo at night. Same shame baby sounds like! No leaks! As pp said check direction of willy! Frills out and loose babygrow (this was our problem)

OrderOfTheKookaburra · 06/12/2023 05:32

Different brand - my 2 were completely different shapes and needed different brands to each other. Expensive to keep trying though.

Matilda1981 · 06/12/2023 05:34

If he’s wearing a vest at night maybe go up a size as they squish the nappy when they get bigger!!!

CeeceeBloomingdale · 06/12/2023 05:37

I would dry bigger vests/body suits. Leaks can happen when they get tight.

mumof1or2 · 06/12/2023 06:37

I size up with the nappy at night and then also put a pull up on over the top of the nappy. Works wonders for our DS and no more waking up soaked! Also make sure his willy is facing down when you do the nappy up.

Justbecause19 · 06/12/2023 06:59

@Lizbiz89 yes I was putting all mine in size 3s at night at that age. The lower weight limit is 6kg but there seems to be a big jump up in the nappy length between size 2 and 3. There is also a stretchy tab in the back of the pampers 3s which I found helps keep it nice and snug.

Emrie · 06/12/2023 07:21

Try huggies

mine always leaked with pampers

ohfook · 06/12/2023 07:51

I had this with one of mine and it took me ages to realise it wasn't the nappy, it was the vest I had her in vests that had become too small so it was effectively squeezing the nappy out. As soon as I moved up to the next size clothes it stopped.

PurBal · 06/12/2023 07:54

Put a reusable nappy wrap over the top. I like motherease air flows.

BertieBotts · 06/12/2023 08:02

Different brands (one supermarket brand has elastic across the back) and + sizes are the same size but more absorbant.

The ages/weights on the pack are just a guide, try a size 3, if they are too big just keep them for later.

Never found frills in/out made any difference personally.

I found Pampers Premium Protection best overnight but they are hard to find in UK.

Lizbiz89 · 06/12/2023 12:33

Thanks for the replies. I've been out today and got ds some bigger baby grows and vests. I think that might be a contributing factor as his 0-3 months were getting a bit snug. @Emrie I didn't know you could get Huggies in the UK, can you let me know where you got them from?

Amazon sell Huggies

Emrie · 06/12/2023 13:02

Costco but think Amazon do them too
