Is this delayed gross motor skills? What can I do?

DD is just turned 9 months. She can roll from tummy to back but not the other way. She can reach forward for a toy out of reach and get herself almost into a crawling position (foot sometimes tucked under her bottom) and that's it. She isn't crawling or army crawling, she isn't pulling up and she doesn't like bear weight on her legs for long, maybe a few seconds while standing on my knees and holding my hands. My first baby was crawling by this stage, standing holding onto something and pulling up. Starting to get worried and thinking I need to contact HV to get her referred for physio?

Your baby sounds completely normal.

LittleBearPad · 05/12/2023 22:49

Babies are different and they don’t all do the same things at the same stage. Try not to worry

Frazzledandfried · 05/12/2023 22:51

Sounds OK! My DS didn't crawl til 10m, walked at 12m and couldn't roll from back to front until after he could walk. No problems at all now he's nearly 3.

DD didn’t move at all until 10.5 months. And then it was a sort of sitting position and dragging herself along. She didn’t bear weight on her legs until around 12 months maybe and walked at 15 months.

She’s 18 now and walks fine 😊

Wrongsideofpennines · 05/12/2023 22:52

I would say normal and not to panic yet. She will have a check from the HV soon anyway so you could ask for it on the earlier side if you wanted.

But if she's 2nd baby then she maybe doesn't have the need to move so much - sibling brings her things, provides entertainment to watch etc so no need to get it herself.

cestlavielife · 05/12/2023 22:53

Can she sit up as in stay sitting up and play? If she can sit without falling over she is fine.

She is only nine months!

By all means talk to hv and have her on wait list to be assessed , but it does not sound worrying . Just different timeline.

DappledThings · 05/12/2023 22:56

Mine didn't roll till a year. Bum shuffled at 16 months, crawled at 19 months, walked and at 21 months. Nothing wrong, she just didn't want to earlier. She hated weight bearing on her legs till she was well past a year.

I don't think you have anything to worry about.

Devilsmommy · 05/12/2023 23:02

You're a bit early to be worrying yet. I know an 11mo who doesn't crawl yet and there's no issues afaik. I think maybe stop comparing to other babies, I know it's hard as mines 14mo and has no words yet but was cruising furniture at 8mo and I'm constantly worrying somethings wrong but babies just go at their own pace no matter how much you want them to advance. Keep up the tummy time, she'll need the strength for all the moving she'll be doing before you know it☺️

dizzydizzydizzy · 06/12/2023 00:20

DB only walked when he was about 2.5 years.

Emmadowns · 06/12/2023 02:55

Thanks for all your responses,
@cestlavielife yes she's been sitting independently for long periods since she was 5 months, she's happy just sitting watching her brother or on someone's knee so probably not enough practice for crawling happening. The weight bearing was worrying me as DS loved standing with support from no age and was walking about in a walker but DD hates the walker and jumper and won't really stand on her legs even with holding my hands etc

She’s fine. Some babies never crawl. She’s sitting well, you have nothing to worry about.
