Advice on caring for a baby with Covid

My 6month old baby currently has Covid. Day 3 and she's generally very upset and difficult to comfort. An occasional dry cough and a little snuffly but doesnt sound congested. No temperature but feels hot! Red cheeks on and off. Breastfeeding fine, not really interested in solids like she was. Waking up upset constantly at night, every 30-60mins. Daytime naps 30mins ish 4x a day, that is quite similar to before. Have used the calpol inhaler in her room and calpol medicine although she gets very upset when giving it to her and clamps her mouth shut!

Any advice for comforting or caring for her, anything I've missed or is recommended for a baby with covid?

My husband and I are on the tail end of a covid infection ourselves so it's been v tough caring for our little one and not sleeping when also poorly!

Many thanks!

It sounds like you're doing all the right things. Perhaps a bath before bed (if you're not already doing that) would help sooth any blocked nose that might be interrupting her sleep.

A little bit of ice cream to eat to sooth any sore throat.

A bit of vapour rub on her feet can also be very soothing.

I hope she feels better soon. Hopefully it won't last too many days.

You are doing everything right, I think with covid it just has to take its course, and it sounds like it's going through the feverish stage at present. Can your husband share the workload to help out, keep on with the calpol because it should bring some relief and keep fluids up.

@Lindy2 thank you! I will try these suggestions :) ice cream - any in particular? Wouldn't of thought to do this, any in particular? We have some Mackies in the freezer!

@jennylamb1 thank you :) we have been sharing the wake ups at night to try and help the other recover.

You're welcome, covid is horrid, having had it 3+ times now that part where you just can't get comfortable and feel hot and up and down must be really unsettling for your baby, but it will get better, and at least there will also be some immunity too. ❤️❤️

I would buy some snuffle babe vapour rub put on her vest under her baby grow. The saline spray is good for blocked noises as well.

I generally find Nurofen helps them to sleep better than Calpol when they are unwell. She's over 3 months so can have that x

Just a caution - don’t use the normal vaporub. It’s dangerous for under 2s.
