Hi,

My milk is slowly coming in ( day 5 ) and did anyone else experience a bit of flu like symptoms when this happened? I don't feel like I'm ill, just a little achy

I didn't but could you maybe have mastitis?

I don't think so.. I've not got any signs of that. Breasts feel fine and no lumps or hotness. Paracetamol has seemed to help the fever like symptoms

Maybe you have just picked up a virus or something.
Congratulations on the birth of your baby!
.

Try and rest!

Hi op, I breastfeed and I've had mastitis twice now both times I had no lumps or hotness in my breasts but did have bad flu like symptoms so fever, aches, felt unwell and in the first occasion went to bed I felt so poorly like I had flu or a bug it was a very strange experience I hope you feel ok xx

Lovebeingamummy2 · 02/12/2023 21:57

Sorry meant to say not saying you definitely do have mastitis obviously you could just have something else but I was just trying to say don't rule it out completely xx

I didn't have flulike symptoms but I used to feel quite drained and physically exhausted when breastfeeding at first. That went after the first few weeks.

PeanutCat1 · 02/12/2023 22:09

Not flu symptoms specifically but I remember just feeling so so tired and achey during feeds in the beginning, I had to really force myself to stay awake at first but that did improve within a few weeks. I did have a sore throat and some cold like symptoms in the first week and remember being convinced I would give my newborn a cold but it didn't ever seem to progress into a proper cold and my DS didn't catch anything. I've not had mastitis before so am not very familiar with how it can present but is it possibly worth you speaking to a midwife or doctor just to rule anything out?

Mummyme87 · 02/12/2023 22:11

midwife here, flu like symptoms are totally normal
when milk is coming in. Not everyone gets it but very common
