Woodwards gripe water -- did it work for you and does it make babies sleepy?

My 8-week old has been fussy now for 3 weeks, mainly in the evening. I tried infacol and gaviscon and neither worked to resolve what I assume were colicky/gastric/reflux symptoms.

I just tried Woodward's gripe water and got on the yoga ball and she fell asleep. I was able to put her on my lap without her waking up screaming. Coincidence or does this help get babies to sleep?

Well if it worked, then yay. My fairly old midwife told me gripe water was no use since they took the alcohol out of it though. She also said everyone with a colicky baby would tell you X worked a charm. She said this is because people keep trying things till the colic stops so will say the last thing they tried is what helped. In actual fact colic does stop on it’s own.

My parents swear by gripe water and still take it themselves (they are in their mid 70's!) and its their go-to suggestion for almost any digestive ailment. Personally I don't feel it ever worked on my kids, but if it's worked for you keep going maybe it works on some but not others.

As far as I could tell, all it did was make DS's burps smell of dill.

Babies do eventually pass out, anyway.

My mother swears by it. Tried it with DD1 and she vomited so much the twice I used it, was like a fountain of sick. Won't be using with DD2 x
