Which brand of milk is well known for gassy babies? My 5 weeks old seems to have alot of flactulence (farts) and seems uncomfortable when doing so he currently on kendamil formula, maybe this is making him gassy? Any recommendations or anyone had a baby like this and or another tried another formula and the gassy was less?

@dixeypeach hopefully someone can advise or has changed their formula and it’s made a difference. There is so many brands I was looking into Hipp? Not sure about Atamil I heard a few things going against that formula - but I just don’t know so hoping someone here can give me advice ❤️

The preparation of the formula can be more significant than the formula itself.
My daughter has a dairy allergy and some of those formulas are prone to be quite foamy. I saw a lot of people complaining about the perfect prep machine and gas. Swirling the formula rather than giving it a good shake can make a difference too. If less bubbles go in...

My daughter was breastfeed albeit with a a dairy allergy and had really tricky to move wind at 5 weeks and 3 is still really windy.

My little boy had no end of issues on Kendamil, and painful gas was one of the main problems.

We did various things to try and help such as changing him from Tommee Tippee bottles to MAM bottles, as well as moving down a teat size (the bottles usually come with size 1 but MAM do a size 0 teat too). This helped but didn't solve the issue and so we ultimately switched him to SMA Pro (we were actually trialled on allergy milks just in case of CMPA) and he's been great on SMA.

He still farts like a trooper but he's not uncomfortable anymore!

I had this issue until i changed to SMA Comfort milk and it literally stopped instantly. I couldnt believe the difference. She was on normal SMA first but think she struggled to digest the lactose protein which was giving her such a bad tummy.

The SMA Comfort milk (although i know other brands also offer a comfort option) has a reduced lactose protein, allowing it to be digested easier.

I spent weeks delibrating changing her milk incase it made her worse, but i wish i had done it sooner it was a complete life changer for us!

@Superscientist youre right that’s why I use the pre-made version (ready bottles) no foam no bubbles but he still has lots of farts bless him. This is good information as with the formula tins it can’t be anything but bubby because people share them 😫

I mentioned it more because it was something you could have checked with the next bottle without a trip to the shop! If it helped or not some times feeling like there is something you can do that might help. There was nothing worse for my horrendous pnd than feeling like I couldn't do anything to help my daughter.
My daughter could only have her formula swirled not shaken. She had literally one formula on the market available to her so there was no option to switched it to another one!!
Infacol helped her burbs but didn't help her farts. She did get better when I took foods out of my diet but then got worse again when she started weaning. We then found that her painful wind that made her screaming for hours before she passed it was just to cous cous and she couldn't handle that level of gluten.
I have spent a lot of time think about infant wind!!!

App13 · 30/11/2023 14:40

After i switched to Kendamil, my daughter had no gas or reflux problems, it was literally like a switch. two weeks of absolute wailing and then silence, I never looked back.
She was previously on aptamil and it was hell every day.

…Is gas (farting) when the baby cries when farting is it that colic and reflux or are those separate to flactulence? or is it just classed as just trapped wind?

It all merged to one really. Colic is unhappy baby. Reflux is unhappy baby probably being sick or partially sick

My daughter through a phase of bad constipation due to reflux meds and we did a folic relief massage our HV gave us 3 x, three times a day it helped with the flatulence too. I don't have it at hand but can find it

4658Lou · 30/11/2023 18:11

@Superscientist yeah so farts/ burps/ wind- colic /reflux

Yeah so your baby was abit better? how was your baby after that? If you can find it yes please x

Bump* :)

I purchased some Hipp formula as it seems this is gentle on the stomach? I don’t know how this differs to kendamil which my baby is currently taking but it seems to have a good response / reviews for gassy babies? Can I just give my baby this new formula straight away and how long should I give it to see if I see a difference in flactulence?

What was your baby on when experiencing gassiness?

4658Lou · 30/11/2023 20:21

@App13 kendamil formula

App13 · 30/11/2023 20:34

Ok. My daughter rejected hipp one day when I couldn't get hold of kendamil.

I found kendamil, as did others the most gentle of baby formulas.

4658Lou · 30/11/2023 21:00

@App13 yeah I was hoping kendamil would be ok, but my baby is so very gassy it looks uncomfortable for him to pass gas (fart) I was thinking it’s the formula so was going to try something else like Hipp or anything anyone would recommend for a gassy baby, he can be sound asleep and fart and it wakes him up and starts crying and pulling his legs up it’s seems to give him bother untill a poo has passed when he does one it doesn’t look constipated it’s normal consistency runny/soft newborn poop and he doesn’t go days without one so I didn’t think constipation?

4658Lou · 30/11/2023 21:05

@App13 how did your daughter reject the Hipp drink did she just not drink it? I just tried my baby earlier with Hipp milk and he took it no problem just like he would drink with the kendamil so I’m just watching now if there is a difference in the uncomfortable/gas

PRC · 01/06/2024 18:16

@4658Lou how did the switch go? I’m thinking of doing the same as you as my baby is so uncomfortable and gassy on kendamil!

4658Lou · 02/06/2024 15:39

@PRC brilliant! Thriving on Hipp organic formula no pain on it or as gassy we still on it x
