Tips for dealing with toddler's vomiting bugs?

Does anyone have any tips for dealing with a toddler with a vomiting bug, especially a younger one who is not yet walking or talking and can't tell us when she is feeling sick?

We experienced our first vomiting bug the other night with DD (16 months) vomiting off and on for aound 8 hours and ended up with all her sleeping bags, most of her pyjamas, all of my pyjamas and several sets of clothes covered in vomit. Any tips for minimising the mess of future vomiting bugs? With DD at nursery I'm sure this won't be the last one!

Also would you give a child with a vomiting bug milk or water during the night? DD was refusing water but wanted her milk and then would vomit it up again shortly afterwards so wasn't sure if the milk was doing any good.

My top tip is when taking off vomit covered clothes overhead, put a muslin square over the vomit and then pull the item overhead. It stops vomit going into the hair on onto the face. Obviously ideally put on new clothes that button up.

It's miserable for them at that age. Just try to have lots of buckets available and have the washing machine on standby.

My dd never took a dummy previously, yet found it very comforting when she was unwell.
